"Southern India"... I'm so glad Amitabh caught on to this. He, being a cultured man himself, had an intuitive understanding of this, presumably regarding Tamil Nadu. I feel sad for those who visit Chennai as tourists but fail to experience its sacred (for lack of a better word) culture.

For the hordes of Indians who grew up on old school Indian music pre-Rahman, their taste buds were attuned differently. Rahman brought in a new and different sound and since the 2000's, he has been experimenting heavily in various kinds of music and has famously acquired this saying of "you might hate his song on first hearing, but you'll be addicted to it very soon on subsequent hearings".
