The family kept coming back cuz, well... Malayalee parents are strict/conservative or like to meddle and do not like her quirky, carefree lifestyle, and want her to marry and settle down with the guy they arranged. Also, it's her brother's wedding and they want her to attend.

But on serious note, the film just puts obvious paralells between Charlie and Jesus (Mary being a straight reference to Magdalina Mary, him calling Chemban Vinod as Peter and going with him in a boat for fishing, Charlie doing carpentry, the scene where Charlie beats up the guy being a paralell to Jesus whipping out illegal people out of the church, helping people etc),but it is just paralells and just saying in some aspects Charlie is like Jesus. In some other aspects, Charlie does differ from Jesus haha!

For next DQ you have to watch Neela Akahasam, Paccha Kadal, Chuvana Bhomi (that's one name) Its a beautiful road trip film that is sure to please and impress. And the next for Parvathy should be Aarakariyam.

2023-11-21 23:20:16 +0000 UTCNice watchalong - thank you, Korbin and Stephanie. More like a montage than a full-fledged story. I liked the Fort Kochi vibe in the beginning. Bohemian! It's also my favourite place to hang out. The cafes are a lot like in Lisbon. The boatman who led Charlie out into the deep sea was called "Pathrose" - that is Peter in Malayalam. Some support to your Christ theory there. But I would also say it's just using cultural references everyone in Kerala can pick up on, symbols that are not too dense. Similar to how you'll find traces of Ram in SRK's characters etc. Check out the 'hot Jesus', Diogo Morgado, from 'The Bible'.
