This Song gives me feels of "Bismil" song from "Haider". Maybe because it is also written by Gulzar and it is also Vishal's Movie

Charlie Chopra has been out for a week. Wamiqa is pretty good in it and was amused that the entire Naseeruddin-Ratna Shah family is in it.

I havent seen Jawan so I do not know and cannot speak for it.
Yes indeed mass is hard and many makers struggle.
Raju Hirani wants his cinema to reach and be understood by man of all kind of strata, intelligence. Which is hard and he manages to do so.
I get the duality of choice a director has to make between his vision and the business. Art is emotional process . When an artist also has to be a businessman , it starts getting diluted ..
Again, nothing related to each other's comments, but just a mind wandering on Patreon and writing it out .. :D

And VB is one of them..
I understand what Rick says about art and where he is coming from. Being an art student myself who went to art school, every pc we made was put on the wall and had to be critiqued by all. So the pressure was to put out our best work. And be ready for not getting the validation. Same seems with cinema. I truly love watching his reaction to good piece of cinema that is meant for the love of craft .

I agree its not his best work but ya good artists like VB need that critique and its a good thing. It needs to be watched and then it needs to be discussed. It just validates the artist's honest effort.
Mass movies are wonderful as entertainment but not necessarily meant to be critiqued. Its popular genre and anyway gets its due from the masses. They are not even making it for the critics or a niche audience..
On the other hand, makers like Sudhir mishra, Shyam Benegal havent even been touched by OSR who actually appreciate cinema at its true core

Unfortunately, the movie didn't work for me and I am part of VB's niche audience too! 🙂
I wouldn't say it's a waste of time though for OSR to watch it since he is one of those directors whose entire filmography should be explored.
It also looks like Vishal liked another Hindi movie....he mentioned in a recent interview that he loved Jawan and called Shah Rukh and spoke to him at length about it.
He said "What Shah Rukh did in Jawan, we haven't been able to do that as filmmakers. He has made such a beautiful film. He said what he wanted to say and was able to get the movie released without any issues. He is my hero when I see him in Jawan."
Not related to your comment but something I have felt for a while now is that a lot of times, the 'cinephile' audience looks down on mainstream cinema while the artistic filmmakers they look up to appreciate these movies and understand how difficult it is to make a movie that appeals to a wide range of audience in a country as diverse as India.

I read that interview yesterday..
Directors like VB are self critical and have a standard set for themselves.
He mentions he got only 35 crore for a movie with a vision of 350 crore.
He doesnt watch Hindi movies and only saw Dangal that impressed him.
I remember Vikramaditya Motwane criticizing Lootera his own work not been upto the mark.
Some directors' mediocre work also is much better than some commercial directors out there . They do have a niche audience of their own.
VB is one of them..

Korbin - Nice observation on Vishal & Gulzar collab!
Vishal said in an interview recently that it was his life's dream to work on one song with Lataji & Gulzar and it makes him feel very happy that Gulzar has now written the most number of songs in his career for Vishal compared to other music composers.

There are some admirable aspects in Rangoon but the film as a whole didn't come together for me.
This is what Vishal later said about Rangoon -
"I was trying to do something else, I was trying to match the aesthetics of a musical with a real world. Then the VFX. It was out of my hand for that film. The actors that were in the film, they didn’t gel well with each other. It all got quite badly messed up in the end.
I was frustrated because I felt like for the film of that scale, I should’ve had, yes, more money, and cooperative actors."

Yes for this unrated gem. Go for it! And even Pataaka that has Vijay Raaz in central role. Yes “Vijay Raaz in central role”.

Makdee needs to be watched to see just for the same reason.. his actors do magic on screen.
Shabana Azmi as witch.. nobody could think of that..and she played it so well..

I wonder why You guys don't notice Sunidhi Chauhan's singing .. may be because she sounds western in her vocals ?
She seems to be Vishal's favorite singer and first time featured on the mic in this song..
I did love this movie when I watched it. Weak part was the nemesis played horribly by the white actor.
You are right. Budget was big for this movie.
VB has a style of film-making which I enjoy. There indeed is depth and his characters are so fascinating. Its like reading a book that has come alive .

For seeing Vishal Bhardhwaj go all out with "grandeur" and stuff you have to watch his short film "FURSAT" with Shahid's brother Ishaan 😍🙌 It's soo worth watching, y'all should have watched this ages ago lol
