Sapta Sagaradaache Ello - Side A MOVIE REVIEW!! | Rakshit Shetty | Rukmini Vasanth

Comments

I have never met any Indian, North or South, that was embarrassed about their language. I have only seen pride, sometimes too much of it, from every single Indian I know and have met. I don’t know where this notion comes from that we are embarrassed or somehow find our languages inferior.

Kripa

Hi Korbin.. any content today?

Reva

I completely agree with you on this ! It is such a sad state of affairs when it comes to our languages! The pride with which people flaunt the ability to speak french or german or spanish isnt there when it is our own languages! My partner who isnt an Indian always used to make this snarky comment as to imagine if English or French or German was archaeologically proved that it is the oldest language how they wud have made sure whole world knew abt it and marketed it everywhere as an elitist language! Whilst you Tamilians dont even teach Tamil properly to your next generation when you immigratei! Every now and then some Tamil songs gives me hope with poets like Yuga Bharathi , Thamarai,Kabilan, Madhan Karki and so on! But one poet who was taken from us so early was Na.Muthukumar, miss him very badly ! But i agree that the use of English in our songs as well as lack of respect to our languages are on rise for a while now !

We can go on and on about Sagara Sangamam and of course, Swathi Muthyam is another gem πŸ₯° Such sublime music & beautiful lyrics for the songs as well! The one thing I am most sad about in the evolution of Indian movies is the deterioration of language...the increased usage & importance of English in our society as well as the decrease in interest/looking down upon our native languages makes me wonder about the next generation - if we'll have any good lyricists or actors with command over the language and even if we do, how they would be forced to make the language simple for the general audience to understand.

Wow! Thats a pleasnt coincidence, It was my dad's favorite Kamal Hassan, K Vishwanath movie, we used to watch it atleast once in 2 months we had that Video Castette πŸ˜… and the next one was Swathi Muthyam hence it automatically became our favorites 😁! I was so disappointed with Rick when i saw that review and how he dint get Raja sirs composition -the BGM in that movie was priceless, that train scene with the mom was ultimate, even Keeravani went gaga over it in a recent Interview. Yeah I agree with you that condescending tone and behaving as epitome or unquestionable authority of artistic taste is off putting! But Korbin really is the saving grace during those times ❀️

Divya

Oh yeah, I remember watching that review! πŸ˜• My father is a huge fan of the movie, Kamal Haasan & K Viswanath and introduced the movie to me in my teens...I find myself going back to it every few years since then...it's an evergreen classic that has stood the test of time! Most of us know by now that Rick is a wild card. A lot of times that he doesn't like a movie, the criticism is so random & baseless but delivered with a know-it-all & condescending attitude which puts people off....glad Korbin decided to do this review with Steph. πŸ˜„

Jyothsna

It is slightly surprising that he dint like this movie of all of them he watched! I guess it depends on the mood he was in when he watches a movie ! I was shocked when he dint like Sagara Sangamam but was very joyous that Korbin loved it and thought it was one of the best performances of Kamalhassan! That was the thought came in my head as soon as I heard that Rick dint like this movie, coz i believed he would like this movie coz it was subtle and grounded and true to itself! Anyway that is just me ! πŸ˜…

Divya

LOL, looks like Rick doesn't get artistic movies either! πŸ˜‚ Anyways, I loved the movie and thought the writing was great. The performances of both the leads were superlative (especially the female lead) and the soundtrack is one of the best of the year for me. P.S: Korbin, since you mentioned it's one of your favourites of the year, watch this deep-dive analysis of the film with the director where he talks about the inception of the idea, writing choices and basically all aspects of the movie if you are interested. He also talks about his thinking behind Manu not discussing his decision with Priya. It's partly in English & Kannada but has English subs. https://youtu.be/MsPR0_KEQ1s?feature=shared

Jyothsna

Any chance we get the KHKN watchalong soon?

Shayan

Loved this movie, the reality of life and how our choices made in a situation that we think felt so right ,can end up screwing our whole course of life was so beautifully portrayed and some of us could relate to it.. Rakshit is quickly becoming my favorite after Raj B Shetty❀️

Divya

Personally, feel v neutral about this movie. I liked some moments like you mentioned but even tho the story was predictable (which is not an issue) I felt the execution was a bit slow for me idk why haha. But thoroughly enjoyed the acting!! so keen to see the 2nd part cause I feel it's gonna be more darker and a good revenge story. Hope you will do a watchalong for "Aachar & Co" next! or review whatever works. :)
