I agree one of his best artistic creations, he even agreed that he felt very free while making the movie๐ They started to watch for review,Korbin hated it ๐ so they stopped watching. I guess you do need a bit of cultural reference for eg. The first scene about Ilayaraja and Nina Simone or the honor killing! Natchathiram nagargirathu is my second favorite movie of Ranjith after Kaalaโค๏ธ

2023-11-04 15:03:07 +0000 UTCHi Aditi thanks for expressing your opinion on this,by stating that the word remain dictionary does not mean we have given permission for others to use it against us, but it is to let the world know that this word originated due to the plight of our forefathers and even current generation. It was used against us to make us feel like human filth and do not use it anymore as it is dehumanizing and derogatory. As a person who was abused with the word paraiyan time and time again while growing up, I hope one day rest of the world realizes that it is a very abusive and traumatizing word and not use it as a normal word in conversations and text. I am always open to listen to others view and perspectives, and just like you mentioned we all have our own opinions on any given subject, you have yours and I have mine just like many others I know ๐ ๐

Born and raised near kozikode she met and fell in love with my Appaappa when he visited her town in Kerala during his activist college days as a Parayar communist who followed Periyarโs teachings.. ( I want to write their love story maybe one day) ๐ I am sharing her story to say that I have to disagree with your wish to leave the word that uses us and our name to describe unwantedness and rejection alive in the dictionaries. Dictionaries are constantly updating to add new words so why canโt they update older words to reflect their violence? Or better still remove them from a completely by not including them in the school curriculum! Like my appaatha used to say we should not give them the permission to use words that hurt us and I want to add that to it by saying my generation are more empowered and we should insist on reclaiming our name by refusing to let it be used by our peers, educating those around us about the origins of the word. Instead of just wishing it so. Like some one said in an earlier comment, we have to do the labor ourselves to resist the word and sometimes it begins with us insisting itโs removal from space and places that give people permission to use the word. I hope I didnโt sound rude, I just wanted to share my thoughts on this issue which were different from yours ๐ค๐

I make it a point to watch movies made by creators like Pa. Ranjith,Manjule, Ghaywan,Mari Selvaraj. Also i became a huge fan of PS Vinoth Raj even though he directed only made one movie Pebbles which was sent to academy awards for 2021 and unfortunately dint get short listed. Please do watch it if you are interested , it is streaming in Sony Liv.๐ I will now stop setting trap for you to watch Tamil movies before you find out lol ๐

With lil budget and amateur actors, he has created engaging cinema while showing mirror to the society.. I dont know if you all have watched fandry.. if not, do watch.. it shakes you up.. Thank you for suggesting.. I will watch Pa Ranjith movies๐๐

Please do watch Ranjith's other movies you will find it very interesting coz I remember your comments about loving Manjule and Gayvan' body of work and also liking Apte's episode in MIH2 . Sorry I dont mean to impose on you Tamil movies. i usually observe other Patreon's comments here( when I am bored ๐) and I have a feeling that you would like Pa.Ranjith as a director based on your few comments ๐

2023-11-02 06:56:39 +0000 UTC@maya as a Dalit Paraiyar i do not believe that the term "paraiah" should be removed from the dictionary, it should remain similar to the N word in the dictionary. I just wish that world recognizes that Pariah is as derogatory and highly dehumanizing as the N word or even worse coz it is not even considered derogatory in this modern day and age . Doing away with the term would do nothing to the Paraiyar community pride, instead it would help many conveniently forget what our community went through and is still going through. But acknowledging it as a derogatory term for what it stands for will be a step in a right direction for building a healthy society ๐ ๐

This is a period movie about the oppressed who were went through hell in KGF.I am not sure if you are aware the word Pariah (outcast) is derived from the word Paraiyar . With Pa.Ranjith we know it will be charged with proper research and the politics of oppression.

From then on he is titled "Chiyaan" Vikram. Funnily enough in the movie Sethu there is an elaborate scene where everyone tries to find the meaning of the word "Chiyaan".
