2023-11-09 17:27:10 +0000 UTCI still remember the time when Indian 1 was released..... One of my fav films of Shankar and it had fantastic a music by our bhai ARR. But to be honest Shankar's way of conveying messages through movies is outdated now and his prev few films including robot 2 (except the graphics) were average at best content-wise!! Moreover most of his good movies like Indian, Mudhalvan, Endhrian-1 etc., worked mainly coz of contributions from Writer Sujatha. Ever since his passing, Shankar's movies are not the same (Same can be said for Maniratnam). I really hope with Kamal leading from front, Shankar will re-invent himself this time !! Also I wish Shankar went with ARR instead of Ani...... ARRs work in Indian was legendary stuff !! Each song from that movie deserves a reaction...

2023-11-04 14:29:59 +0000 UTCHe has animation in almost all the movies of his I have seen, especially during songs. I have seen 10 of his films. Absolutely one of my favorite Tamil Directors. Very unique, quirky. Watch out for jolting changes of tone too. Definitely watch Sivaji, Enthiran, Boys, Jeans, Indian and I liked Kadhalan which starred Prabhudeva and an amazing ARR soundtrack. I am excited for Indian 2 and Game Changer, which he is currently filming with Ram Charan

2023-11-03 23:55:53 +0000 UTCPlease watch the first "Indian" (1996 - Tamil movie). It is considered to be Shankar's best in his filmography! Not Kamal's best (DUH! the man has an ocean of classic works) but Indian is very entertaining and a movie with a strong message while being so fun!!

2023-11-03 23:53:40 +0000 UTCI remember watching "Hindustani" , the Hindi dubbed version of Indian in the 90s when it came out in the Cinema Hall. Its a special memory because my Ajji (grandma in Marathi) had come with us and it was the only time she ever watched a movie with us in the Hall.. I remember asking her how did you like the movie, and she said she loved the dresses of the actresses and the song "Maya Machindra" and all the Jaadu in it 😄 (special effects) My Grandma was a simple woman from the village who lived a very simple rural life but very progressive in her thinking 🙂 This movie hits differently :)

2023-11-03 21:45:51 +0000 UTCShankar is the one who started the direct social messaging and 3rd act flashback structure in Tamil Cinema. Also the over the top filming of songs as a setpiece! To me SSRajamouli is a fine tuned dramatic filmmaker version of Shankar and Atlee (Shankar's AD earlier) is his commericially filtered version of him. As an aspiring filmmaker, Shankar was the one who set the bar of imagination and grandness on screen very high from the 90s!
