For Mani Ratnam, there are the big commercially successful films that others will recommend. But there are a couple of really good films that you should watch - Kaatru Veliyidai and Kadal. These aren't event-based, but more character exploration and shows Mani's strengths as a writer.

Same script shot in Tamil and Hindi at the same time with different star cast, so neither one is a remake of the other. Tamil cast - Suriya, Madhavan, Siddarth, Isha Deol, Jasmine, Trisha Hindi cast - Ajay Devgan, Abhishek Bachan, Vivek Oberoi, Isha Deol, Rani Mukharjee , Kareena Kapoor You have watched a song (neem neem) from the hindi version with Abhishek and Rani, and you'll loved the chemistry between them

Because his comedies are very dialogue and dialect based rather than physical comedy. Panchathandiram, Kadhala Kadhala (also stars Prabhu Deva) , Thenali are my top picks.

Kamal’s next could be ‘Thevar Magan’ or his slew of comic movies starting with ‘Michael Madana Kama Rajan’! Mani Ratnam’s next romance dramas could be ‘Alaipayudhey’ or ‘OK Kanmani’. And his action drama, ‘Raavanan’ - Vikram and Aishwarya Rai in Tamil version specifically. Every one of these movies are good for a watchalong.

Jayam Ravi was the main lead in the Ponniyin Selvan series, and he was the one who played the younger brother of Vikram and Trisha in Ponniyin Selvan! Mani Sir (his pet name amongst die hard fans) is actually repeating Trisha and Jayam Ravi in back-to-back films. You guys watched Trisha in Leo recently. For a Mani Ratnam film, I would recommend Aayitha Ezhuthu, since you guys love action a lot! It has Suriya, Madhavan, Siddharth and its a beautifully crafted action film that collides three seperate stories into one.
