Maye Ni Maye - Hum Aapke Hain Koun - Salman Khan, Madhuri Dixit - REACTION!!!

If they liked DDLJ, they might enjoy this as well.. personally HAHK is my favorite guilty pleasure. Like its said if only life would be like a sooraj Barjatya movie :D This movie is iconic in many ways for that generation.. A must watch for OSR

Yes the style is old school, almost like he is harking back to the 60s or something. But boy, that innocence is part of the charm.

This is a landmark film in the Hindi film history for all the reasons and more that Vrithika mentioned. You have to watch it at some point. No guarantee you will like it but do a watch along all the same. A WHOLE bunch of us will be super happy. Beware, this film has 14 songs!

Kiru

I have asked for 'Vivah' umpteen times. Somehow Sooraj Barjatya films dont get enough votes here maybe because of its old school style!

It's said this movie was the first time Indian producers learned that there is a larger overseas market where greater profits can be made. This film made more money globally than any other Indian movie before, and I believe that DDLJ when released did not beat its record (though it was very very close). It was also released at such a golden time because obviously, more NRIs lived in foreign countries than ever before so getting to watch movies as they were released, in the same weekend, was getting more accessible instead of waiting for a VHS release and sharing pirated copies of the movie. Of course, non-Indians especially in the Eastern hemisphere have always been Indian film lovers too so it's not like I'm forgetting them but the significant NRI populations is what made this shift happen. Plus those NRIs only had calling cards to call back home, there was no video call, or WhatsApp or Zoom so this movie made them feel like they were back home. This is a very enjoyable film but I'm afraid OSR may not like it, since the story has not aged well. I showed this movie to my gen-Z sister-in-law a week ago, and she literally asked me every 10 minutes, "so what is the story?" and I had to keep her entertained by telling her random facts -- like how Madhuri Dixit's iconic purple saree from this movie became so popular the following year, this color was out of stock in India for a little bit. Or that this is one of the few films in Indian cinema history where the leading female actor was paid more than the leading male actor.

This reaction made my day! Both my parents love Rajshri films (they're always family dramas and sometimes a little too Disney for some people). So I grew up in Texas watching all the Rajshri production films on a LOOP, especially this one. It is said that I always used to start dancing as a toddler when Didi Tera Dewar Deewana played. Maye Ni Maye was also the first dance I did at my elementary school talent show, and my mother taught me the choreography. In the song, Madhuri tells her mom she met someone and is ready to get married, like in the end, she's begging her mom to put henna on her hands for marriage..... This year about 2 months ago, obviously, I danced to this song at my wedding sangeet function for my mom and it all came full circle <3 I think y'all should watch "Vivah" (starring Shahid Kapoor ) first, to understand Sooraj B's style of films. And then maybe work backward and watch Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Maine Pyar Kiya, and Hum Saath Saath Hain. He's made 2 other movies in his career which I don't think are as good or iconic as these 4 films.

When did I ask them to watch it? I just described the movie… it’s upto them based on description if they want to watch it or not.

Sooraj Bharjatiya is truly the sweetest man. He was also in The Romantics briefly when he talked about the genius of Aditya Chopra and he was referencing this film.

Vrithika

pls do not ask them to watch this.. it will creep them out in the story line :)

My personal experience.. This movie songs all tracks i have listened to for 12 hours straight alone in a room with Tape recorder in repeat loop .. this movie has more than 12 songs and it was my place to be in my teen times... it is too personal to me.. But you guys do not watch this movie because your reaction would destroy my nostagia.. Also i would not watch the movie again now.. let us keep this a nostolgic movie..

Rajesh R

Almost all songs from this movie has been reacted to. 🤍

Three films of SB to watch (very mushy, but very sincere and true to the creator's heart): HAHK, Vivah (best love story ever in Hindi), Hum Saath Saath Hain ("We are Together"). Stephanie will love Vivah.

Karan Johar = Yash Chopra + Sooraj Bharjatiya (*HAHK director and the sweetest man ever) He truly is a Yash Sooraj baby. He mentions SB a lot, even in interviews you've seen, you don't notice cos you don't know him.

Thanks Korbin for watching this song.. this is most watched movie in 90s. ... its long .. has 10-11 songs.. there is a song every 10 mins almost.. the movie is about all Indian culture...wedding and family.. The real barometer of any movie is the footfalls (or number of tickets sold) to measure the success. It even cushions the inflationary box office numbers. By that definition, Sholay is number 1 in that list 18.25 crores (182 million) footfalls highest ever for any Indian movie. And Hum Aapke Hain Kaun is 5th in the all time footfalls with 7.8 crs just below Mughal E Azam. You can see it was a phenomenon back then. https://m.imdb.com/list/ls047470041/

Boy, you guys keep adding more and more decades to the word "CLASSICS". May I suggest that for Classics month, we pick 4 movies (one each week) and they would represent one movie from the 1960's, one from 1970's, one from 1980's and one from 1990's. Otherwise, you've barely watched any Classics from 1960's, for example.

This was the quintessential family drama w 14 songs … The first film to make more than a billion rupees….. Madhuri was highly praised for her acting in this movie. It celebrated family, traditions around festivals and wedding.

This is the K3G domain film - full on family drama, tons of songs (every song is a KEEPER!), loads of family emotions, loads of cheese, but damn enjoyable!! Go in with the "K3G mindset" and you might love this. And yes, this is the ALL TIME BEST BHAI FILM EVER!!! Fun Fact: This was the film that inspired Karan Johar to take up cinema as a profession and this was a huge inspiration for him to make K3G.
