There was a movie in the past where they brought an epic cast in malayalam, called "Twenty:20." All cast were amazing actors. But the movie doesn't stand the test of time well. But it was such a cool event at the time.

Some of the actors who pioneered Malayalam cinema were Sheela and Prem Nasseer (Watch "Chemmeen" movie from 1965), Jayan, Madhu and so on. I'm Gen Z so my knowledge is very limited.

AMMA is the malayalam actors association, so an AMMA project could be anything the association is affiliated with. Also the reason the cast looks so star studded, they probably have no affiliation with it but theyre listed cuz theyre members of AMMA.

Hey you have to watch Chemmeen from 1965 and Bhargavi Nilayam from 1964. Many of the films in the 50s, 60s were based on very celebrated books. Someone seems to have misled you that Malayalam cinema is only good from the 80s. I agree that some of the worst films were also made at that time (the 80s) and in fact, Malayalam porn also became crazy big during that decade. But there are many many classics that you would enjoy, from the 60s and 70s.
There were super stars before Mamooty and Mohanlal like Prem Nasir and Sathyan and all but the tone of their acting is very much like in Tamil and Telugu of that time, very melodramatic. Those films are very very good however because right from the beginning Malayalam cinema gave the script the utmost importance. As Vishal Menon in this video said, several films of the 50s and 60s were very left leaning. The Communist party was and is very strong in Kerala and the idea of socialism was prominent in the cinema of that time.
Some reason we are always only talking about the men (in every language). There was Sheela, Sharada, many many others who left an indelible mark on the audience.
