It was mainly due to the glamor and style Tamil mainstream cinema had (like more fashionable, glamorous songs ), while Malayalam mainstream was more family oriented. But nevertheless youth loved Tamil cinema, it was the older generation who were not comfortable with it (but they also loved Tamil movies of their generation though)
