From what I got, it seems people tried to create a union in the hindi industry but haven’t been able to maintain it successfully. I googled too and couldn’t find it . Maybe I’m missing something

Love when smaller films with lesser known, B list or C list actors do well both box office wise and critically! It was like that well before the pandemic though. I remember watching a video in 2018 or 2019 where they said lately most of the big budget movies with A list stars flopped while the smaller budget movies with B list or C list actors were hits. Luck helps so does social media. There have been well written movies long ago that didnt do well at the box office and probably would have if social media existed then- and if they had good luck.

Slowly tamil cinema also falling to this overly priced actors as many producers have been askin to reduce their salary. Kamal was paid 130cr ($15 mil) (eq. to $60 mil PPP) for Kalki and Vijay's paycheck literally taking 60-70% of films budget.

Tamil film industry does have a union since 1952 for its actors it’s called Nadigar sangam
