Hi Patrons!

This is what the page is going to look like in print (Yes, Barry wrote two double-page spreads in a row):

Barry's script says "This is a double page spread, showing a building - it could be a firehouse, the Norse Hall, a church, almost any public-spirited or public building that would have a large hall of some sort." Barry is a great writer to work with on a comic! I love the combination of leeway to draw what I want, and Barry's willingness to preemptively look up what kind of building would be a polling place, and send me some reference photos to choose from. He found a few interesting old firehouses, but this one was my favorite:

The firehouse is now a private residence, and you can see lots of photos of lovingly-restored old-timey luxury home interiors here:

Since the Turtle City firehouse is on a corner, I looked at a different firehouse on Google Street View to see the side.

I like the arch shapes over the windows, but in the comic, I made the side windows match the ones in front.

I couldn't get the exact view I wanted on Google Street View, so I biked over and took a few photos myself. (I definitely don't recommend standing in the middle of SE Belmont during rush hour, but it worked out that afternoon.)

I placed this photo onto a page template so that the corner of the building was right in the middle. As you can see, I ended up exaggerating the perspective on one side and...I dunno, just kind of ignoring it on the other side.

I drew a rough version of the whole building at first, and then worked on one page at a time. I wanted to finish the left-hand page before leaving town for Thanksgiving. In retrospect, I should have kept that page on my desk while I finished the right-hand page, because there are a couple of details with brick work and coloring that don't match up. But until we're ready to print Issue Six, that's a problem for Future Becky.

The runner-up for the voting location was the Norse Hall, pictured below. Maybe Barry can work it into a later plot line!
