As far as I know the movie name doesn't have a direct connection with Ramayana except the fact that in the book ramayana the place kishkinnda is the country of monkeys. Actually the plot of the movie us simple but powerful. Three years ago boy get killed, 1 year after that the mother passes away and the grandpa forgets about where he hid the body of the grandchild . The grandpa keeps finding out that two bullets are missing and thinks that may he causes the missing for the child. Ands finds out everytime that the grandchild killed by either his son or daughter in law and destroys the evidence. And so on

So the character of the Grandad is indeed Hanuman as you guys guessed and Hanuman in mythology often forgets his powers. He remembers them after Jambavan reminds him of his powers, Jagadeesh the character to whom Appu Pillai goes to remember stuff is Jambavan. And everytime he talks to Jagadeesh's character he rediscovers his purpose of his search. The child's character can be seen to that of Bali as he was killed and the Asif being Sugreev possibly. I am a bit unclear on the direct relations here. But there are parallels with the Chapter on Kishkinda absolutely, even the setting of the plot in a forest area is similar to the Kishkindha chapter in Ramayana. A very rich analysis can be made here but it would certainly take some thinking.

Btw, now you know the ending, just rewatch the scene where they find the monkey skull buried and look at the expressions of Ajayan and His father. Both are thinking that the body is of chachu.

2024-12-03 06:04:07 +0000 UTCSPOILER ALERT: The grandfather truly forgets all that happened and each time investigates what happened by noticing that his gun is missing 2 bullets. He is able to understand the 1 bullet reg the monkey and the 2nd he eventually concludes his grandson was killed by either his son or daughter in law and he doesn't know. The multiple visits he made to the hospital was part of the investigation (the date of the treatment vs when the missing report was filed) and this keeps looping ..the last scene was him performing yet another investigation. I don't think the friend knows what happened to his grandson since the grandad tells the protagonist that the friend was able to account for 1 of the 2 bullets (the boy shooting the monkey).

2024-12-03 06:00:23 +0000 UTCThe end I think just shows that the cycle continues and that's why she says "we have to keep up our act"... the grandpa will go about his investigation yet again, and the dad along with his now wife will continue to act like they are searching for the kid. The grandpa will eventually figure out the truth and burn his findings yet again. That last shot is him going to the groundskeeper to start the investigation again. Also, the grandpa knows that either of the mom or dad are responsible for the death, but he isn't sure who is. He just knows it happened and the kid is dead. And he doesn't want to know who is the culprit, even if it was an accidental death. Hence the line, "the truth that does good to nobody..."

2024-12-03 03:36:16 +0000 UTCGuys, the title is about a part of Ramayana where Lord Ram seeks the help of the monkey Kingdom to help him build a bridge to Sri Lanka to go and save Sita. This is just a homage to that Part, since the grandpa here makes use of the monkeys stealing his gun as a plot to cover up the tragedy. I don't think there is too much to read about that otherwise with respect to the title.
