Ofcourse I tip 20% everytime, but I don’t understand why that is the customer’s problem! The employer should take responsibility and so should the govt. it’s just accepted as a culture now so don’t see it changing. It’s just weird from an outsider’s point of view.

The problem is I dont think people understand how low wages are here relative to the cost of living. Tips are necessary. Most people in those kind of jobs need to have more than one job and usually do not have things like health insurance or paid days off. The US is not a "First World" country in many regards. Please tip when you come here.

Omg the tipping conversation always get me! That was the biggest culture shock for me when I traveled to the US, and it’s true it’s gotten worse, on my trip last year, there were cafes asking for a tip even while buying a bottle of water! Which I myself took from the display to the counter! Insane.
