Gold for wedding is a social construct that’s hard to break away from for majority of the people. It’s not about living beyond means and showcasing it but more about societal pressure to buy gold for the bride. It’s sad, depressing and seriously f-ed up.

Sajin Gopu had a completely different character from Aavesham’s Ambaan where he caused a laugh riot. 😊 Basil’s best performance as an actor for sure. Lijomol (Steffy) did a great job as well. Score and Cinematography were outstanding. Delivered a powerful social message through a simple storyline.

Having seen many reviews from non-malayalis, it seems like this is that kind of movie which only malayalees can relate to completely because it is so rooted in the region, the culture and also the customs. Most of us who grew up in Kerala would have seen people like these , including PP Ajesh, Bruno, Mariano etc in real life and thus relate to them better. Nobody is a villain here even the husband - Mariano, only the situation that they are in. The burden brothers carry if they have sisters to get them married, the hapless mothers who have no option but to surrender to the whims of their men, all are victims of the societal norms and expectations.

The biggest issue I had with the film, Troy was that they removed all traces of the Gods! why would you mess with the classics like that? Korbin, read the Trojan War first so you will appreciate the Odyssey and why Odysseus/Ulysses makes that epic journey. The Odyssey is his journey, returning after the end of the Trojan War to his home in Ithaca.
