Some Details
This month was quite rough for me. I had lost all motivation to work on Weiss and struggled to get anything relevant to it done. I decided to take my break week early, but that didn't help either, and I was still experiencing quite bad mood swings on the regular. So I decided to take a second break week as well. That did help a little, but I'm unfortunately still struggling with things even now.
I'm still not quite sure what's going on with me, but I figure a large part is a result of hormone therapy intensifying my mood swings. I've always struggled with keeping my interest on one project for a long time, too, so that's another factor for sure. Not having any teammates to provide some incentive there makes things really hard.
It's not like I didn't do anything, though. I spent most of my time hammering away on Framebuffers, a library that handles all the operating system bits to open windows, handle events, and let you draw to the screen directly from software. This kind of thing is a gigantic task, though, and it's far from done still. I'm not sure when I'll have the energy to continue working on it. Ultimately I'd like it to serve as a base for a lisp-native SDL/GLFW. The biggest part of those libraries is all the OS bits, and adding OpenGL/Vulkan/Whatever context handling on top is relatively minor in comparison.
As for Weiss, fortunately Domolutz is back to working on the project starting today, and I'm really excited to see the new animations he'll be working on soon. We had a chat last week and that gave me quite a bit of a push to start working on Weiss in earnest again.
Right now I'm concentrating on a Blender plugin that should handle all the custom metadata we need for character animations, trigger volumes, and so on. I've been putting that off for a long time and finally getting to it I'll maybe gather enough motivation to get started working on the first real level, too.
Anyway, I don't want to leave you without any tasty screenshots, so here's what the demo room looks like now with SSAO enabled:
And, well, that's about all for now. Fingers crossed that April will fare better for my poor ole brain!
