Yes I do not like these groups files. And you are right in sum the single files are smaller than one big file with all in it. Apart from that, the time involved when each Patreon must do it for themselves.

Supported STLs are the heavier part of the ZIP, so the size would close to double in the case you state (I personally thought that the weightof 3 separated STLs was more than the 3 grouped). It really is not a matter of time, exporting the files from Chitubox would be like a glimpse compared to the time it takes to prepare and "clean" each STL and add supports. It's just that we think almost everyone prints the parts grouped, so we don't want to make everyone download/store such bigger files when we believe they will not need the separated supported parts. Maybe a poll is a good idea to ask if the extra size of ZIP is preferred over "auto-exporting" the separated supported parts? 🤔

2023-05-01 12:06:39 +0000 UTCI just spent a few minutes testing the above reasoning out, by opening up 1 of the presupported chitubox files and saving out it's individual contents (it was the 'greatweapons 1 of 2' file, for discussion sake). As I suspected, the 3 supported stl files together came to 118mb, the same size as the group of 3 clustered together (both as a saved supported stl file) I could do it with the rest, to test, but I'm pretty sure it would come to the same result. The file size shouldn't change if I have 1 weapon of 3 grouped together, or 3 separate (or say, 10 heads grouped, or 10 individual). Yes, presupported file sets can get pretty big indeed, especially if you include both the chitu/lychee files as well as the unsupported+presupported STL's... but they won't ever change in size if you group them up like this, or put them out individually. You still ultimately have the same amount of data to store either way. For the record, I too love the models here (and have been a long time supporter). I also dislike that supported models are grouped like this (some other artists do it too...). While it's not hard to save them out ourselves, it does take time to do so (which seems a more reasonable reason for them not being saved like this to begin with imho). It won't stop me backing though of course... just something to think about :)
