The love I'm really looking for is the love of good neighbors.

Sorry, Joseph. I made an assumption you were a 20 something ready to teach English. Good luck with the love quest.

Thank you for the video. I have heard that the Japanese don't usually show affection. To us from other countries it looks like they are hiding it. Like they are embarrassed by it. I think like you do, our partner is supposed to be that, our partner. As far as them siding with their culture, I would expect that to a point. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. But if I'm trying really hard I expect her to back me up and tell others I'm trying. It's like they are doing everything in their power to hide their love. That's just not right. I hope your next video shows couples that Married for love and how they show it. I hear about so many that married out of convenience or it was the practical thing to do. Certainly no love there. And thank you Carolyn for chiming in with good thoughts. I'm turning sixty this year so I'm not a young person looking for a Japanese girl. But I do want to know that there is love and genuine caring from others that I would feel happy that I'm there and not just people being afraid of upsetting the apple cart because of their culture but really caring.

Sure. The marriage takes it to a serious place.

It is the marriage part that becomes painful. Dating and parting one can handle.

Painful stuff, Carolyn. Hard to explain to those who haven't lived it, isn't it.

Joseph, I dated many Japanese men while living in Tokyo, lived with one for a year and ended up marrying a different Japanese man when returning to the States because I was so homesick for Japan when I left. Each person was so different and unique, but each one brought insurmountable barriers of culture to the mix. I do mean insurmountable. Perhaps things are easier now, I am old enough to be your grandmother probably, but each relationship was doomed from the start. We reveled in the challenge, the exotic charm, and in our horny youth. Hearts were broken both ways and in many cases. I did not learn the life long affect until children were brought into the picture. Be careful. I know, I would not have listened to my parents either, at the time. Young love thinks all is conquerable. Be careful.

I have a question about couples in Japan. First, let me thank you again for all the wonderful videos you do. They really let me see a side of Japan I wanted to see, real life. That being said, when you talk about relationships, especially between couples, It seems that things are very practical. In one video you told us about a woman who said she was engaged and it shocked you because she never said anything about it. And when you asked about him she just said he was a hard worker. Now you seemed to be saying that a lot of marriages are like that. So my question is this: is Japan a loveless place? In all the videos I've seen I don't remember anyone talking about love or emotion. And not just in your videos but in all of them. I am seriously considering moving there from the USA. But if there is no love there is no point. The Beehive mentality only goes so far for me. Could you make a video on this subject? Thank you.
