Office Hours Q&A 192 | The "Pre-Intermediate Slump," Why Modes Feel Different, and Standard Tuning Intervals

Comments

I have a problem with pressing too hard on the strings. I have been practicing buzzing scales to fix this and it has helped with open chords. However, I still have the issue with bar cords. How can I practice to fix this?

These might be too esoteric, and skipping would be fine as it isn't about technique per se. I have two questions. 1) I'm in what I would call a "pre-intermediate" slump. I'm not sure how to develop skills to connect my hands (doing) and my head (thinking) together. I have found writing and recording to be helpful, but I also tend to lean on the software to get around my shortcomings. 2) Been learning about modes and I know each mode has a sort of "feel" attached to it...why? (I mean, I can hear it, but why does it feel that way)? You have talked about harmonic frequency and other cool things before and didn't know if you had thoughts? Feel free to skip.
