Hi Everyone,
Community Challenges are a reminder that music theory needs to be put to use to be remembered. It's one thing to memorize a concept, but it's an entirely different, fun, exciting thing to actually use those concepts. Come community challenges zoom in on a specific music theory concept, some are more open. The goal is to write SOMETHING. Not a complete song, or a complete thought. More like a napkin sketch.
This week's challenge is to write something dancy. In the video above, I show an easy way to accomplish this with just guitar, and a more involved version with recording software. In the second version I talk about writing a beat that feels dancy, and I use a bit of guitar, bass, drums, and keyboard to get something fun going. As usual, I'm not interested in finishing a complete idea with these challenges - thats not the goal. The idea is to just see what happens when you try to write. Over time, it gets easier and more fun, and you start to get more control and confidence over the outcome. But you have to start somewhere.
