Hi Everyone,

This Community Challenge is: Write something heavy

What is a Community Challenge? It's a fun, low pressure excuse to practice using what you've learned here to make some music.

I firmly believe that the missing piece for music education is CREATIVITY. The goal of learning a language is to be able to speak your thoughts. Music is a language, too. It's great to learn songs, but writing music is SO important to your musicianship and really helps make those music theory concepts click.

I know people say things like "creativity is important" and some people interpret that as "when I get good enough at guitar, I'll start being creative" but I can't emphasize enough:

START. MAKING. MUSIC. NOW.

I don't mean that as a threat. I mean it as an invitation. Now is the time to start, not later when you think you'll be "good enough." As you get into writing, you'll realize that your technique is improving, your theory is easier to retain, your mind-body connection is getting stronger, and your ability to learn to songs gets easier. This is because writing music challenges you in the most personalized way. You end up practicing something you've never played every single time you sit down to write. Even if you fail to write something you like, or the technique isn't quite manageable, you're still pushing yourself in really valuable ways.
