Hi Scott Hope you're feeling better quickly. Feeling lousy in the Summer is..., lousy. So taking your help from last week, I took the plunge and started playing with some local musicians this week, and will play at an Open Mic next Tuesday. Nervous but excited as well. Playing Wagon Wheel and Angel from Montgomery as nice simple songs to get started with and I'll be playing the rhythm. The other guitar player will play the lead in the songs and he was mentioning soloing to voice leading. Briefly he said it had to do with common notes, or close notes within the notes of the chords I was playing in the progression. I remember hearing you talk about that when I was reviewing MTM 5 for the Melody course. Can you explain what Voice leading is a bit more? Thanks

2023-06-01 13:36:58 +0000 UTCHi Scott. Hope you feel better soon. My question is how do we know which scale/scales to play over a chord/chords? If we play a C major chord a C major scale would seem to be the go-to one but what other choices do we have?

2023-06-01 13:24:23 +0000 UTCHey Scott, thank you for answering my awkward question about the major/minor scale shapes in Office Hours 120 and sorry to make you rant! My question this week is around strumming without a pick as I pretty much exclusively play fingerstyle. If I want to strum loudly, I curl my fingers up in to a loose fist, and strum with as many finger nails as I can. If I want a softer strum, I will use just my thumb nail. If I want a muted strum, I'll use the pads of my fingers or even my topmost knuckles (I am fully expecting another rant when you read that bit, but it does have a unique sound!). The issue in all cases is that there is no consistency - I am struggling to get each strum sounding identical to the last because my hand is not hitting the strings in the exact same way each time. Strumming upwards is also a bit of a challenge to have it sounding nice. I have checked out your strumming lessons which are great, but does focus more on using a pick. I wondered if you have any tips for fingerstyle strumming, or know any artists who play similarly and mastered the art?
