OFFICE HOURS 124 | What to do now that you've recorded songs!

New here? Wondering where to start? Click here for my Patreon start page, or here for my recommended lesson plan.

Hi Everyone,

The questions for this week:

Tasha had questions about Mastering, releasing music, marketing, etc - what to do once you HAVE the recordings.

Archer had questions about microphones and how to properly record a band rehearsal with one or two mics.

Ray asked about songs with only one chord, vamping, and block chords

Andy was wondering why I always specify "half diminished" instead of "diminished triad"

David asked what is the best way to get better and how many hours should I practice?

Yep, thanks Scott. Super helpful, as always.

Thanks so much for the information on recording in the garage! Very helpful. Take care.

Also, I've heard people refer to block chords. What does this mean?

Hi Scott. Is it possible to play a song with just one chord? How does this relate to vamping?

Hey Scott. Questions on recording band rehearsals with minimal equipment. So a few friends and I got together and hammered out a few tunes in my garage recently. We used one of our smartphone devices to record but was obviously not ideal. I do have a two channel Focusrite Scarlett (2i4) interface that I use with Garageband. Just using this setup, would it be best to just use the Scarlett to place a couple of microphones at opposite ends of our area? Are there particular mikes for this purpose? I know at some point we'll have to invest in something with more inputs or channels. Thanks again for all your help and keep up the great work -- it truly helps. And congrats on your latest Hot Bodies release.
