What up what up you can call me Nick, I have been playing guitar on and off since I was very young. But I can never seem to break just being a strumming guitarist who can read a chord progression but can’t really improvise further…( even with just chords lol). I got my AA in music theory and jazz guitar (which is all they teach in school besides classical) made me dread guitar sadly. But I stumbled across your page and it brought back my joy for guitar cuz it looks so fun ! Either way glad I’m here and happy to be a part !

Aloha my name is SarahMay and have been trying to learn to play guitar on my own. I've been mostly trying to play Fingerstyle through TABS but have hit a wall. I wanted to learn the whole fretboard and about how to harmonize and not depend on the TABS for everything I play. I just wanted to have fun by understanding the instrument better.. I liked the study aids and worksheets that Scott puts out because I have a hard tie conceptualizing things when people on YouTube just talk. Thanks Scott. I have gone through Watching the basic videos and I think I will finally understand music theory and my guitar if I follow your lessons. I am much older in life and figuring out this Patreon and Vimeo jumping around is a little hard for me, but I will get it. Looking forward to the lessons and working with you all.

Sarah

Awesome! Glad to hear that!

I’m like a few of you who’ve played for some years. I started with Scott’s CAGED course then the CAGED II course and now I’m following Scott’s lesson plan one by one as he recommends. My playing has improved immensely in the short time I’ve been taking Scott’s lessons. I’ve had a number of teachers in my life and never before have I advanced this much. I enjoy each and every lesson even the theory lessons some find boring. Cheers and welcome all.

Welcome! Shoot me an email and I'll send you the CAGED PDF. My automated system got messed up! lessons@scottpauljohnson.com

Hi Graeme! Welcome! I hope you enjoy the lessons, even if you watch half and come back later. Let me know if you have questions.

Hi! I'm Luke and I live in New Jersey. I've been playing guitar for about 27 years or so, since I was 11. I plateaeu'd as a guitarist a long time ago, once I built up the requisite knowledge/skills to write and perform songs. I never really progressed beyond being a solid rhythm guitarist. I'm playing in a new band and decided to invest the time & energy to develop as a lead guitarist. I'm refreshing on music theory now with the intro videos. I came to you, Scott, via your CAGED video on YouTube (Where can I get that PDF btw?) Anyway, I'm a fan of your teaching style Scott and excited to put the hours in and improve. Thanks.

Hi everyone I’m Graeme from Scotland in the UK. Been playing for a few years on and off but more recently in the last 2 years I’ve knuckled down and been teaching myself a bit more. I am mostly chords but really looking to use the fretboard a lot more, and if by magic this is how I’ve ended up here. Scott’s nice calm way of teaching is really helpful. I won’t lie I follow lessons to a point then drift off to play tunes lol but I will try harder promise.

Hey everyone, don't forget to check out the where to start page: https://www.scottpauljohnson.com/where-to-start

Hi Alice! Welcome. Very cool that you have so much time to practice AND that you're into building your own guitars. Don't forget to check out the where to start page and the recommended lesson plan - You might appreciate the Lesson archive, too. I've got lessons about major and minor pentatonic scales - my "CAGED Basics II course" talks about that.

Scott Paul Johnson

Hi Krizzia! Welcome! Let me know if you need help navigating the archive and don't forget to check the "Where to start" page linked at the top of every lesson. Also, for some reason I have a LOT of youtube viewers from the Philippines, don't know why!

Welcome (officially) Markus! So happy to hear that you're enjoying yourself. If you purchased a 7 string by accident, have you considered returning it for a standard 6 string guitar?

I have played bar chords and open chords for maybe 30 years. About a year ago I got serious about learning my fretboard but decided I wanted theory as well. I admit the circle of fifths at first almost killed me until I realized the order of sharps. (Double sharps and flats still mess with my head). On a side note I would love to see a vid about major and penatonic patterns and how they are same or similar. Still I wasn't exactly "soloing". I have to say your videos on two and three chords over penatonics is eye opening. Dare I say fun. I practice about 3-8 hours per day. Sometimes it's 8 hours of "noodling". But I got into amateur lutherie as well and built my parts-tele caster myself. Building another as we speak. I think the most progress in the shortest time has been made because of you and your indepth caged videos

Hi everyone! I'm Krizzia from the Philippines. I've watched Scott's videos on Youtube and was very amazed by the way he teaches and as well the quality of his videos! I've been playing the guitar for a few years now, but I've been stagnant with my skills and my playing lol. Hoping that I'll be able to play the songs that I've been wanting to play ever since!

Hello together, my name is Markus and I am from Switzerland. I came to know Scott early 2020 by the caged system on youtube. I had an accoustic Guitar for some years, but I was stuck with the classical chords and was struggling with new chords, bar chords and the orientation on the fretboard, as well as with Music theory. My goal is to be able to play in a worship band of our church. So now I got myself an electric guitar, not knowing that it was a 7-String guitar. I can testify that since I joined Scott's Guitar Lessons and play them over and over again, my Guitar Playing is advancing in a speed which I wasn't able to achieve in the past years. Thank you very much Scott for Sharing your knowledge with us and keeping it real. I highly respect your humbleness and simplicity. May god bless you. Markus.
