Your Suggestions for Live Lessons
Added 2024-04-12 17:42:15 +0000 UTCHi Everyone,
I'm wondering if you (yes, you) have any requests for live lesson topics! I love seeing familiar faces in the chat, but I want to make sure that ALL my Patrons feel welcome to attend live lessons every Tuesday at 4PM Pacific.
Are there any topics (or specific lessons) that you feel particularly curious about? Feel free to comment your suggestions below as well. Thanks!

I think doing a lesson on the 50's doo wop sound and 6/4 timings that went with that era would be cool.

2024-04-16 05:04:59 +0000 UTCWe'll never know. Jk. I think I meant to say "music theory" but realized it was the same as the one above so I deleted it. or so I thought

2024-04-15 15:22:58 +0000 UTCmaybe have a breakdown of how to play popular songs, what they're playing and why. Something like "life in the fast lane" or "Limelight" by Rush. It would be a cool way to see the theory behind these songs. Thanks!

2024-04-13 18:34:08 +0000 UTCScott, I really like when you show us tips, licks and exercises, like that cool legato exercise you showed us a few weeks ago. Maybe every lesson can give us a little something we can practice! I love the live lessons and hope all your patrons can take advantage of this excellent resource.

2024-04-13 04:56:50 +0000 UTCApplication of music theory, soloing and basic technique are all interesting to me. I would also be interested in any techniques or practice routines for improving the ear such as pitch and interval recognition. Thank you, over the past year you have greatly increased my knowledge and ability with music theory and guitar.

2024-04-12 23:08:27 +0000 UTCYou are providing an invaluable service and truly touching lives. I hope you know that! I fear it is too good to be true and, therefore, can't last. But am appreciating every minute! Especially the live stuff. Okay, enough gushing! Just appreciate you getting me excited about making music/writing songs again.

2024-04-12 21:52:56 +0000 UTCHi Scott. Piggybacking on Mark Fletcher's idea, I was drawn in to your lessons by your early condensed Youtube videos. You have an almost magical ability to very quickly show what is possible with theory and make it understood. At times, the Patreon lessons got so deep I would get lost. Many times I would go back and watch the early condensed/simplified video to sort of get back the point of whatever it is i was learning. I think there is value in doing both.

2024-04-12 21:45:00 +0000 UTCHey Scott, I am interested in all these topics, except how to start a band. Not that I wouldn't like to, but probably won't work in my situation. CHRIS

2024-04-12 21:24:13 +0000 UTCI'm really glad you posted this because I was composing a list I was going to send you unsolicited. I'm so glad you solicited! Anyway, here's my idea. Take each (or whatever) of your courses and summarize that course into a single 50-60 minute "teaser" lesson. This would encourage those who have not taken that course yet it do so and also provide a cool review for those who have. Here is my list (in sort of order of preference): Caged Basics Melody Making Song Writing Modes Triads, clusters, etc - like you did in Thursday's Office Hour Strumming Patterns Chords- Major, Natural Minor, Harmonic/Melodic Minor, etc Blues I have a lot more but I'm sure you have the idea. Your courses are so great and they really need to be reviewed and exposed more IMHO. Thank you Scott! -mark

2024-04-12 19:10:19 +0000 UTCI would like some theory about composing jazz songs.

2024-04-12 19:07:31 +0000 UTCI've really enjoyed your lessons on songwriting and lead guitar. Could you do something more focused on writing a rhythm section? Specifically: A) Different voicings to make a chord progression more interesting? B) Changing the strumming pattern at different points in the song C) Composing a verse, chorus, and bridge I know you've covered all of that to some degree in your songwriting series, but I think it'd be great to do a deep dive on rhythm playing. Thanks!

2024-04-12 18:36:09 +0000 UTCRegarding topics for music theory and it’s applications, I would love to see some lessons on things like these (if you haven’t done them already): Common music theory for different genres (like common things done in rock, country, etc. like you did with blues) More “uncommon” theory like the minor 4 (think Creep by Radiohead), odd time signatures, etc. Syncopation and “pushing”/“pulling” the beat Edit: More chord progression analysis would be great too. Or a video covering how to determine where a chord wants to move to, because I struggle with that a lot. I also agree with Mark that some kind of overview or recap video series might be nice! There’s so much to remember, I find myself have to rewatch videos and that would help. As everyone else has also said, your videos are amazing and you’re an incredible teacher! Keep up the great work!

2024-04-12 18:18:47 +0000 UTCHello Scott, Unfortunately, I can’t join the live sessions due to time differences and the comprehensive nature of your curriculum. :) Once I’ve fully digested the material or if I have any questions, I’ll surely jump on the opportunity. Last week was a whirlwind at work and home, so I missed your lessons, but I’m sure there’ll be more chances ahead. Thanks so much for your dedication and effort in teaching me guitar. Really appreciate it! Cheers, Petru C.
