2024-09-07 22:24:35 +0000 UTCNot spoiling- just clarifying, that Boromir and Aragorn are not brothers. There is a HUGE amount of lore behind all this, but they tell you this small part in the movie: Isildur died, and the line of kings was broken. Instead, Gondor is ruled by the “Steward” of Gondor. A steward takes care of things while the king is away. Boromir’s father is the current Steward of Gondor, which puts Boromir next in line to rule. That’s why he cares so much about protecting his people, and why things were so awkward when Aragorn was suddenly revealed at the Council as the last heir to the bloodline of Isildur. And that’s why it was such a big deal that Boromir pledged himself to Aragorn at the end. Boromir was saying that he would have given up his birthright as the next Steward (de facto ruler) of Gondor to instead follow Aragorn as Gondor’s rightful king.

Btw, sometimes this trilogy is re-shown in theaters. If you ever get the chance, do go. It’s even more incredible in the theater.
