News: January 2024

The final renders for Helga's ending are just about finished. I've already prepared all of the remaining stills for hair customization. That render queue is 936 images. I haven't started on the animations yet. I'll get to those when the queue nears completion. GnB will continue to be updated monthly with as many hair customization renders as possible.

While the queue runs, I'll be working on the SC remake. As noted before, I'm changing the name to avoid confusion. I'm not sharing the full name just yet, but I'll be referring to the SC remake as the new acronym from now on: DI.

As for progress on DI.. The major plot points of the main story are complete. Many of those come from the old SC, with some changes. Most of the dialog has not been (re)written yet, except for the intro. The intro still needs images, but is otherwise complete.

After the intro, you're brought to the map screen where you can progress at your leisure, similar to GnB. The code for the map is complete, and it seems to function quite well. There's also a camp where you can do various things. (Think Hunter's Dream or Roundtable Hold, but in a VN.) The camp is full of placeholders at the moment, but the code is complete.

I've been focused on the inventory for about the past week. The first step was to figure out how it should function. After much consideration, I've finally settled on something I'm happy with. Visually, it will look somewhat like SC's RPGM inventory. I've also decided to include the equipment screen as part of the inventory instead of making tons of menus. It's all placeholder images at the moment, but it's shaping up nicely. I'll share some previews with Patrons once the inventory is fully coded. It won't look pretty just yet, but still.

Beyond that, I intend to add the stats screen and the combat system after the inventory. The stats screen should be quite simple and quick. The code for the combat system will take much more time. GnB's combat system was basically practice for what I have planned for DI. It will be much more complex, and completely optional! More on that later.

I'll continue working on DI's code while the GnB render queue runs. The queue shouldn't take nearly as long as Helga's ending images have. Those have reflections that greatly increase render time. GnB updates will continue monthly until all hair options show in every image/anim. The first release for DI is still some time away. I won't be working on much in the way of visuals for DI until GnB is complete, except for maybe a character redesign here and there (like Vivi).
