The Patreon Podcast - Episode 4 - Lee Evans, Analytics and Others

Slightly late, but extra sexy to make up for it. Here are some sound words for you head holes.

- Dan

Comments

Watched About Time, thanks for reminding about it in the first? Podcast. Perfect movie, though when it came out I was a stupid young teen and hated the trailer XD

EthanASC

This is correct :)

Barnable

Blackberry do 2 phones with keyboards running android: the Priv and the KEYone (which is similar in size to the passport)

Barnable

FFS Dan, how am I supposed to revise Investment Appraisal while this remains un-watched on my feed? Grrrr....

Toby Wilson

Hey Dan! How do you feel about the fact, that none of your videos have been demonetised so far? (As far as I can tell...)

Titusz Ban

Ah Monkey Boy, loved a bit of Lee Evan's back in the 90's. He was probably the person who got me into stand up comedy. Speaking of long sets did you know that Ken Dodd still does 3-5hour gigs? He's just turned 90! Ridiculous. Tempted to see him before he's unable to perform. It's probably not my kind of comedy but there's got to be something there to have the ability to entertain a crowd for that long. Would you like to freak out the Hardcast listeners by playing some Blue Jam? (Chris Morris' radio show from the late 90's) It's the darkest and most surreal sketch show I've ever listened to. On the hip hop front, for sentence structure I highly recommend Aesop Rock. If you've ever listened to old Biffy Clyro it's similar to their output. In a study on the use of unique words used by various hip hop artists (from their first 35,000 words on records) he used 7392 unique words, approx 900 more then second place GZA and twice that of DMX, Drake & 50cent. I'ld listen to "Rings" "Goffer Guts" and the more straight up story telling of "No Regrets"

Daniel Marshall

Haven't listened, is it 'Lee Evans' the comedian? If so, he is my favourite comedian and would recommend if Dan doesn't!

Hey, I know you're a big Edgar Wright fan, did you ever watch Look Around You? My science teacher introduced me to it like 7 years ago. I recommend https://vimeo.com/151824339 and https://vimeo.com/77466354

Jake Atterby

I probably value a phone more than Dan does (I mean he has a blackberry so I must do) but I otherwise entirely agree. People who spend £1000 on an iPhone have issues, real issues. Also, I don't quite understand his desire to rid himself of his testicles. If you don't want kids is contraception not easy enough?

Mike Jones

Your podcasts are great for getting me through the day at work. Well worth being a patreon. Keep them up Dan.

Woodchip NZ

Thank you so much for the Lee Evans suggestion, as well as the nostalgia of Plastic Beach. I guess it makes sense that someone that makes stuff I enjoy, enjoys things that I might enjoy as well. My first time watching one of these podcasts all the way through and the way you start/end the podcast is brilliant.

Rio Sewell

Permadeath series would be super swish

Question. Would you read and critique my writing? There are some short stories, rap, poetry, and jokes in there. Twitter or email, @ArcarnIX or jackharnett99@gmail.com, respectively for a link if anyone wants it

Jack Harnett

Dan have you read the his dark materials series? If not it is amazing, and small spoiler it is not for Christians.

I use trello as a student game dev, didn't like it originally, but once you organise it and keep to a system it's magical. I get not liking additional apps though, too much shit to keep track of

EthanASC

I will join the pantheon of "Have you ever"s hoping you'll read my name aloud--have you, a ska fan, experienced Five Iron Frenzy? Local Colorado band figure you've never heard of...

WC the Comedian

I'm not going to lie, I never expected you to garner views in the same way that Ahoy does. Very interesting.

Sandwich247

do you watch lindsay ellis? brilliant youtuber who goes deep into movies :)

Dan have you checked out GORN? It's a VR gladiator-them-up, it's my favorite game in VR right now.

Yuval Talby

Hey Dan, the autobiography of Jean-Luc Picard is out. Wondering if you are going to read it/have read it?

Franklin Goodman

Dan, check out Opus Magnum, from the creators of SpaceChem, Infinifactory, and SHENZHEN I/O. Certified Dodger recommended.

Simon Paffett

This episode sponsored by Tesco :P

Narmatonia

Question. Will you ever go back to looking at shitty simulators? Your London Underground one was how I found your channel.

Mr. H.

In regards to the phone conversation, BlackBerry released the Priv, which is a full touch screen with a keyboard when you slide the screen up.

So I'm just gonna throw this out there, don't know who else feels the same but I personally would really really like a transcript for these podcasts. Hearing problems + lack of visuals means I can usually only pay attention for 15 minutes before I get a headache, so I never listen to these.

Dan, can you do some more TV series rundowns? I would love a yes [prime] minister one, but I think i'd enjoy basically anything you want to talk about.

Well Read Nomad

Are you a fan of musicals? If so which is your favourite? Mine is Heathers, if you haven’t seen it I’d highly recommend it.

Alex Sutherland

I quite like being able to call or message anyone with an internet connection or phone, take photos and videos and record audio, play video and audio, access most of the world's information, do complex calculations, keep track of any tasks I have to do and know when I have to do them, tell the time, and translate languages, without having to take up two seats on the bus.

Jaxom

Dan I’d be more than happy to run and organise a VOD channel for you. I maintain my works YouTube channel so it’d be easy enough for me to do. Feel free to vet me to make sure I’m not a hitter loving homophobe who loves trump!

Reece Fowler

I usually can't make it to the streams live; but I watch them all on Twitch's video tab. I haven't had any issue with watching them, and you don't even hide them behind a subscriber wall (Although I am subscribed). I feel as though having another channel to hold them would be a lot of time to fix a problem with an already implemented solution. With the exception of creating edited versions of the streams (which would take up a lot of time by itself), the streams are already perfectly accessible to watch as it stands.

Nope, but I assume it’s good based off of your recommendation.

FlamingYeti

Either do it blind and check out our local comedy night or if you see anyone being particularly funny on a tv show (panel show, chat show, general comedy show) Google who that person is and see if they're touring near you. If you don't see much comedy on tv (which sounds like the case from you) jump on YouTube/Netflix and watch a few sets/clips. Don't know what you're into or where your based to recommend exact comedian's/nights.

Daniel Marshall

Dan have you seen the James Veitch rubber ducks comedy routine? Its absolutely hilarious

Dan i was wondering if you have ever watched the tv show the wire, and if so what are your thoughts on it?

Makes me sad that youtube still hates you. almost all my watch time on youtube is on your videos, and you still barely come up on my sub box (all 3 channels)

Dan, how would you improve reddit's comment section?

Franklin Goodman

Re: Youtube hating on Dadcubed videos (which, seriously, wtf), can you let us know when they actually are monitized? Because I don't know about anyone else, but I'll go watch/rewatch them then. Also, re: your book, yes, as a writer and editor, I am begging you to let an outside person have a go at it. Whether that's a publisher or whatever. It is invaluable to get that insight, especially for your first (few) times through. And to end, ooof, I'd forgotten about the sexy fish vampires.

Diane Frank

You have mentioned The Princess Bride in the past and I was wondering if you have any expanded thoughts on it.

Jeremy Lashinski

That Lee Evans clips is one of my favourites! :)

ThisDamnScotsman

What are your thoughts on the ending bit in Mario Odyssey? I had an audible "What the fuck" and a huge grin on my face when I first played it.

Owen Reid

I've been watching the old Little And Cubed videos recently, they always make me laugh. Dan's angry old man rant about phones sounds like me, I've got a cheap Android phone to make calls and occasionally text. I don't understand why people spend around £1000 on the newest gadgets.

Mark Caswell

Dan whats your thought on the Whatculture/Adam Blampied issue?

Brad

Heavy rain got a lot better after I watched the "Heavy Rain Glitch" video

Stan Gaskell

Have you seen Lee Evans TV Show from the 90's, it is a quite interesting watch. It is all on Channel 4's All 4 service. Also My Sub box always seem to work

Shawn Lindsay

my names welsh, it’s pronounced like Ewan.

iwan williams

Also, I'm calling it now that the video is an audio adventure, choose-your-own-fate style. If it isn't that, then I'm not calling it.

FlamingYeti

Brilliant podcast yet again fun to listen to and see you and what makes you and inspires you really. You might have inspired me into writing more and I want to have a shot at writing some things of my own. Doing gcse creative writing practice and I went fuck it! I’m making this about me making a chicken (A SUNDAY ROAST!) how my friend was laughing at this made me happy so much and i can’t wait to see my teachers response as she is quite an angry teacher as well and not laid back. I think it gives me the idea of if I’m writing I should be open to anything I can say.

Valthexus

So about the Last Of Us Part 2 trailer, seeing all the 'outrage' abou the voilence depicted I'm seriously wondering is I'm just becoming desensitized to voilence in a small way? I don't mean I'm an emotionless husk but the trailer didn't give me any revultion towards the violence, I was more interested in the context behind what was happening and who the characters were. This isn't to say I disagree with what poeple are saying I'm just curious as if what I feel isn't 'right'? If that makes sense?

WritingInVerse

Dan, I've never seen a comedian live before! Hell, I've never really watched any comedy beyond the AIDS scene from Life's Too Short. How do I begin?!

FlamingYeti

After playing the 3rd level of super hexagon consistently through listening through your podcasts, I have finally beaten my record. from 41ish seconds to 42.27 seconds. How quaint.

Addison Reilly

From your boss I’m an enthusiast, I use my phone a lot, I’m excited by new tech, and I like the Apple ecosystem and software. Don’t be a judgemental prick.

Valthexus

Yes he does I got a shout-out last week for a comment I put a week before

Valthexus

Awww now I want to know about the racist fan

Addison Reilly

Dan, do you read these comments or do you treat them more like Youtube? Not trying to bitch about anything just a genuine question

Bloojay

You should reach out and see if the Unofficial N3 Live guys will give you access to the account.

Muser22987

Are you going to finish your survival play through of "They are Billions" tonight?

Tail Of Truth

CAN YOU SAY HAPPY BIRTHDAY FROM US

Hell yeah, just caught up last night, now for the next one!

BurningEmber

I love these podcasts, keep it up :)

I always look forward to these
