The Patreon Podcast - Episode 13 - Trying Is Good

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

- Dan

Comments

First of all, love the podcasts, for some reason I really enjoy listening to them and playing sims at the same time, my question is do you have any stargate merch or books or anything?

Kelly Talvistu

Hey Dan, what's the best way to get into Star Trek for someone who has never seen any of it?

Okay so 2 unrelated questions for next podcast. 1. Can we get a Dan/Rebecca origin story? Last podcast you touched on it and i got curious. 2. How did working out go for you? Since you went kinda vegan for health reasons i guess not so well? Love you and your content since WAY back! Wish you the best!

Charlie harrysson

Just started supporting you on twitch and patreon. Dunno why it took me so god damn long, I've been watching for around 5 years now. Even though it's not a ton of money, I just want to give you something for all the amazing content you have created. Hope you will keep creating (whatever it is you choose to create, book or youtube or whatever) for a long long time

Hey Dan watched the Chris rock Netflix special was so good have you seen Russell Howard's?

Andrew Bassett

Have you considered livestreaming yourself and Rebecca building Lego?

The person reading this is sexy and epic

Hello Dan I was thinking about how my brain makes me feel like I am burden whenever I ask for help. Even if it is their job to help me and what to know if you have any experience with that mind set?

Cheers Dan for the podcast. Just wondering, are there any specific techniques you use to keep motivated about working?

Hello Dan! Love the podcast. Out of curiosity, you never really mention your sister much. Is that her decision, yours, or is she just a really uninteresting person? Thanks!

FlamingYeti

How do you compare supporting molestey actors to politicians? If it came out that Nikola Sturgeon or Lord Bucket Head have a creepy thing for children would you refrain from voting for them if they were an option? Hillary v Trump was a fight between an actual murderer and a corrupt plantation owner that only dabbled in murder by ignoring safety regulations.

Bloojay

In terms of supporting bad people, I like to separate the person from the creator. The only time buying something from a bad person would be a problem for me is if they come out and say "all proceeds go to this shitty cause", that's the only time I feel like I'm directly supporting a bad person's morals. An unrelated question I have; what's the pettiest reason you've either liked or disliked a game?

Dan! Have you heard of Tom Lehrer? He is a comedian from the 1960's who has a lean, no fat style similar to Bo Burnham, but with piano.

Chewing_Soup

Who’s your favourite queen in Drag race and why? Also the inverse!

Reece Fowler

If you like Steve universe, have you tried our gravity falls? It’s on the same level.

Reece Fowler

You said you always wanted to live in a Scandinavian country. Were you aware before you left that Finland wasn’t a Scandinavian country and they militantly dislike the Scandinavians before you left, or was that something you learned after moving?

Reece Fowler

My mom has chronic fatigue/fibromyalgia and I’ve watched its progress from inconvenience to the point now where it has pretty much overtaken her life. Recently I’ve stated displaying early signs of developing chronic fatigue/fibromyalgia, and while I may still get lucky and avoid the worst of it, I’m not an optimistic person. What are your methods of dealing with symptoms, and manage to keep going when your body is fighting you?

Miranda Walker

I want to do writing but I'm not good enough at it. what should I do to get better?

Hello Dan, have you seen the Papers, Please short film? I thought it was an interesting little film that captured the feel of the game, while being its own self-contained story.

... Ignore my question about Tom Scott... i just got the point in the podcast about it...

hah, i just got to you comment about lots of short comments over many long ones... I really need to stop spamming this till i finnish it! :D

I will at some point get to listening to the entire podcast and make a single large comment... But i have ADD, so screw it! GTA Online moded account owner here... Screw paying rockstar to pay for stuff in online...

Also, i remembered. There has been one massive good thing about stargate origins. It has kicked a revival for the original 3 stargates, even the cast and writers are on bored. <a href="https://twitter.com/stargatenow" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://twitter.com/stargatenow</a> #DriveToRevive

Wow, that was an intense podcast. I have commented before but i didn't listen to must of it, just skipped to the comments. I think that America needs some sort of gun control, even if they slowly start introducing it over the next decade. Oh, and for the leaving youtube... please be floatplane.com ... please be floatplane.com ... :p

I saw a game on steam called townsmen VR it's in early stages but looks good solid reviews to :)

Jack

If you read all these comments you deserve a cookie. Also, have you seen this short film based on Papers Please? <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFHHGETsxkE" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFHHGETsxkE</a>

George Farren

Dan did you gain or lose patreons after your most recent reboot?

Purple Disarray

Hey Dan. I was wondering if you’ve watched much Classic Doctor Who and if you have a favourite Classic Doctor?

Hey Dan. Have you seen GameHut on YT. Its a channel by the developer who worked on games Like Sonic R, Sonic 3D, Mickey Mania, Toy Story, Crash bandicoot and Lego Star Wars games, and goes into the more technical designs of those games. Think it will be a channel both you and Rebecca will enjoy watching.

CodingEntity

Hey dan, have you seen the game Abandon Ship? It is described as FTL meets pirates and it looks like it would be right up your street.

Zion Aitken

As a highschool student in the US I feel like everyone in the debate about guns doesn't actually care about us and we never get a say in any debate because we are too young. Too young to think that our own death is a bad thing?

I think it’s around a 1/22,000 chance that all three monitors would have that defect. I think. Maybe. Probably.

FlamingYeti

Dan, how is the game making going now you have stepped back a bit? and have you ever tried honey glazed chicken, with bacon and a little cheese in a wrap, bloody gorgeous.

Jack Graham

Have you considered getting 2 monitors, one 4k for gaming etc. And an ultra wide for productivity tasks such as editing.

I once bought a Captain Jack Harkness style coat very cheap in an army surplus store, I love it so much, it kept me nice and warm in the -15oc Philadelphia winter! Try looking in those kinda shops for good, long coats :)

Jake Atterby

Hi Dan! I'm trying to lose 35 pounds (about 16 kg) and I'm using your system of a LEGO reward once I reach my goal weight. My reward is the collector's edition Slave I (Boba Fett's ship) as incentive, with a minikit Slave I as a half-way reward. And also thanks for your content and stuff.

Joseph Henderson

Ru Paul Drag Race Allstars S3 is BenDeLaCreme your cream of the crop or are you living for Shangela's slut drops? Thoughts on the season in general? (It's on in the UK on Comedy Central Btw)

Daniel Marshall

Hey Dan, have you ever played LOCOMOTION, a city planning game by Chris Sawyer? It is in the same style as rollercoaster tycoon 1&amp;2

Christopher Stairs

Your merch is the best 💕💕👍

Siana Brooker

Have you listened to Alex Horne's Podcast ? Its brilliant.

Hey Dan, you said you have trouble finding good overcoats and I do too. One place I can recommend is Magnoli Clothiers: <a href="http://www.magnoliclothiers.com/index.php" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://www.magnoliclothiers.com/index.php</a> They have a wide range of clothing including a large Doctor Who section which includes almost every item of clothing worn by the Doctor since 2005. All their clothes are made to fit your measurements and they have a wide range of overcoats which can be made to different lengths. If you can't find anything you like then you can work with them to design something to your taste. I've purchased a few items from them and they're well made, durable and at a good price.

QuietlyRobyn

What is your favorite Star T̶r̶e̶k̶ Wars ship?

Started listening to Episode 1 on Monday and have just finished episode 13. After listening to all the podcats at least twice. I’m so excited for future podcasts. Been a sub since the first Train sim video and reckon I’ve seen every video available 👍.

Since you have said how you like Tim Minchin he and a number of other Australian comedians are currently in a show called Squinters there are only 6 episodes but I am not sure if it is available outside of Australia.

Auraharako

Where do you live that twice is the minimum? Once, absolutely, but why twice?

Felice Enellen

Hey Dan, is it possible you can change your Nerd3 Toys background music? The random "ping" every now and then is really distracting for those of us with defective hearing (don't play with fireworks kids). Love all the stuff you do, except for that darn background music. Really like the little snippet of how you and Rebecca got together as well.

Woodchip NZ

The way the US flag works is that it is supposed to be treated as if it were a living part of the giant organism that is the USA and its people. That's why trampling on the flag is a bigger deal here than in other places. (No one literally believes the flag is alive, of course--it's just a metaphor that, in my opinion, gives people a reason to treat the symbol of the nation with more care and respect.) Given that the Queen is also considered a living symbol of her nation, it's actually probably a half-decent parallel to draw.

Felice Enellen

I've been trying to figure out why I liked Margaret Cho but hated Amy Schumer. I think Dan might be on to something there.

binchi

Don't speak on behalf of other Americans. Personally, my experience of America is the opposite of yours. People do NOT view America as a religion. Don't paint me with your broad brush. I'll generalize to THIS extent: A lot of people DO gobble up the garbage they're fed on social media and believe, with blind faith, that America is going down some kind of sewer. Anyone who's actually lived in the world, and not just along the narrow route between their (parents') house and their school or work or grocery story, and has seen things through their own eyes and not through the iphone of their favorite youtuber, knows things are very different from the biased, single-sided, often-fabricated nonsense that the other people in their own personal politi-social bubble keep puking back up into each other's mouths. The web is a very depressing place, mostly because people think they're informed just because they browse the parts of it that agree most perfectly with their existing beliefs. By the way, this generalization does not just apply to Americans, much though the Europeans and Canadians like to think themselves intellectually superior.

Felice Enellen

Lockdown drills always seem to me like training day for the eventual shooter. "Ah, so this is where everyone will be hiding."

Felice Enellen

Chicken. Duh.

Felice Enellen

The American pledge, which began in the 1800's, long before Nazi Germany was a thing, concludes by saying, "with liberty and justice for all." You can't exactly compare the sentiments of the two countries, at least without being incredibly disingenuous. The Nazis simply, as usual, got it wrong. By the way, good job invoking Godwin's Law in the very first post of your thread. That is fastest possible way anyone can kill their own credibility.

Felice Enellen

I wonder if I'm blocked yet.

Felice Enellen

Back it up with a link to the story or it didn't happen. This sounds like a BS anecdote made up based on a quote from Fight Club.

Felice Enellen

Europe took away the guns. Problem solved! Oh wait, no it isn't, people just steal a semi and drive it into a crowd when they're nuts, and they kill and maim tons more people when they do! Good work, Europe! I don't sub to you for this kind of internet-informed political commentary. You're generalizing so hard here that you just sound like a complete fool. You'd *laugh* at anyone else who thought they could speak authoritatively on the thoughts and feelings of 350 million human beings as if they thought as one entity. You sound exactly like the kind of person who generalizes about all muslims based on the actions of a few muslims, except you're picking a target you think you can get away with. FFS, I thought better of you.

Felice Enellen

Knowing you are a Bowie fan, what are your thoughts of the film Labyrinth?

MrAndyTF

James May is indeed magical. Toy Stories is probably one of my favorite TV shows ever. What makes him happy makes me happy. As long as he can make himself happy, he make me happy by proxy.

Felice Enellen

Can confirm you pronounced Guylian correct, I just saw a TV advert for them

Maybe I wrote that slightly prematurely, I've gotten to the part where you're talking about how you now try more to listen, and yeah, that probably explains it. (also, to clarify, while I can't really remember specific events now, the things you were saying that made me uncomfortable were generally the sorts of words that, while the people they're directed at find them offensive, I understand that those connotations aren't necessarily common knowledge, so I'm not saying you're inherently an arsehole for saying it)

Tom Chaney

You were talking about telling your fans that they're arseholes so they are more willing to call you out on shit, but don't you think that might scare people off from calling you out on shit. I know I've been vaguely uncomfortable with some stuff you've said in the past, but you gave the impression of 'fuck you if you try to tell me what to say' (which is generally fair enough), so why bother saying anything? (also it looks like my previous comment doesn't seem to have posted, so do you listen to any radio comedy? Do you have any recommendations/you should give radio iplayer a go)

Tom Chaney

Do you listen to much radio comedy? If so, any recommendations? (if not, I'd heartily recommend the BBC Radio Iplayer app)

Tom Chaney

That is one of the reasons that I am becoming a baker/pastry cook because it is a trade that is always looking because no one wants to do it.

Auraharako

Knowing your a fellow Star Trek fan - have you ever read (listened to) John Scalzi's Redshirts? I recently discovered it and found it really interesting.

Can you see well enough to drive? I can't, so I have to use trains and buses all the time. It's generally OK, but how do you deal with living in the middle of nowhere?

Mr. H.

do you plan or releasing the book as a ebook (or even narrating it as an audiobook) or do you just plan on releasing a physical copy? and the "retarded bridge" that you're talking about was from the SimCity video

Dan, have you heard of Flight of the Conchords? They're a New Zealand musical comedy duo and are apparently playing in the UK early next month and I feel like they'd be right up your alley.

Christopher Kennard

Yeah there's a gun problem here, but there's also a shower problem. TWICE A DAY we're expected to shower. It's considered gross if you say you shower any less. I've searched it up, it's not healthy.

Dan, as an American I agree with you on guns. Problem is, America doesn’t make sense... I know people here who would let their own kids die before they give up their guns... the USA is a strange, fucked up place... hell, I have a gun for my one job.

Listen to Hamilton. It's bitchin

Alex

Hey Dan, if Netflix ever came to you with a contract for a series/special, would you insist on a sitcom style series, or a one off special?

Anna Leigh Wilson

I'm a bit too selfish to go vegan but when synthetically grown meat is a thing I'll switch the moments it's out.

Tonie Platten

really hope you feel better and get out of this low spot soon!

DrgnMstrAdam

I’m the 100th comment. Glad us Patreon’s are building in numbers. Lol i remember when i was the only one :)))) (found it before you announced it) Anyway, Trump’s moving slightly forward with gun laws which is weird but cool its 1am goodnight

Gabriel Moody

What do you think about the new Doctor Who logo?

Also; The story behind your Twitter profile picture? I think I missed any explanation but boy do I love it.

Hey Dan, I was wondering what you do to help deal with your CFS. My Mum has super bad Fibromyalgia and it really affects her. Thankyou :).

I really want LEGO to release a couple more rockets in the same scale as the Saturn V. That set is probably the best thing I own, but it'd be awesome if I could have a space shuttle and SpaceX Falcon Heavy sitting next to it. (I am aware there are a few Shuttle sets, but they're not at the right scale, and nowhere near as detailed)

Aaron Place

Dan, do you intend to ever try AC Origins? I know you've played Assassins Creed before, and Origins feels a bit like AC and The Witcher 3 had a child.

BTW, what is your absolute favorite episode(s) of Star Trek TNG, etc.? Love you bunches and bunches!!!!!

AEHelephant

I love listening to you ramble! You have kept me sane for the past year. You are a seriously awesome person. :)

AEHelephant

Try Patricia A Mckillip. She is AMAZING. *Fantasy

AEHelephant

Also you talked about The Orville and I proceeded to watch it ALL in 2 days

How do you feel about about parakeets?

I get this too. "Hi, I'm Christopher." "Hi Chris!" If I wanted you to call me Chris, I'd have introduced myself as that.

Christopher Kennard

Hi Dan, I haven't got a chance to listen to the full Podcast sadly so I'm not sure if you answered it already. However would you be willing to make Kingdom Come: Deliverance into a series in general or on twitch perhaps. Speaking for myself obviously but I would love to watch you play the game!

Which celebrity/comedian would you most like to see on Task Master.

Douglas Hodgson

I'm listening to Dan talk about school shootings whilst going to school on the bus...

Douglas Hodgson

I don't want to go to university but my dad wants me to, any advice?

Douglas Hodgson

Will you ever do anything like Nerdcubed's soup or knee jerk again?

Douglas Hodgson

Wait what did the Kingdome Come Deliverance guy actually say/do that was so bad? The only thing I can find any reporting on is that he would supposedly support gamergate. And even then I cannot actually find any examples of him actually saying that. All newsoutlets that claim any of these things seem to base it solely on a statement he made about supporting ethics in games journalism. Am I missing something?

Skylos

Dan, as someone who watches/listens to a lot of comedy, have you seen Still Game and if so, what did you think? Interested to hear thoughts on it from someone outside of Scotland.

You might like singer/songwriter Grace Petrie (who is currently on tour with Joise Long) for Tory-bashing (among other things) in music form.

Agrajag

I've cut out a lot of meat out of my diet as well. There is so much that is vegan that tastes the exact same. But I can't live without cheese. And I do eat meat occasionally. Every now and then I have a bacon and egg breakfast. Or sometimes I just fancy something specific. But I have cut it down by 80%. And I don't regret it.

Nicholas Robinson

I totally agree with you about Rick and Morty

I really like this episode, It feels really relaxed and honest, insightful even

I have a friend who has a 23000$ scholarship and he still needs to raise 32000$ to go to his desired college

America isn't a religion, Dan. What your describing sounds more like a cult.

Tonie Platten

Deep Space 9 is my favourite Star Trek theme, specifically the slow version they use for a while.

Patrick Jackson

You mentioned in your Halo 4 video that you know about Red VS Blue. I’m just wondering if you still keep up with Rooster Teeth content and if so, what do you think of it?

Tom Harper

I like Josie Long a lot, and it wasn't the comedian I expected it to be from the clip that was played! Nice to hear something new :-)

Patrick Jackson

I remember a while ago you mentioned YouTuber's Life and how that game was kinda boring because it always jsut went the same route ETC, and I think you even mentioned your company considered making a game similar to that (correct me if I am wrong). However, imagine a game where you are not playing as the YouTuber, but as YouTube itself. Where you get to mess with the algorithm, and try to get your website to be the best at different things (Best for gamers, animators, porn, piracy and so on). I can imagine that'd be pretty interesting and I would like to know your thoughts on that idea. (And yes you do get bonus points for fucking with your users)

Skylos

As a person from america, I totally agree... and it's terrifiyng

Johnflipper5

also, dan, was looking through the twitch partner agreement the other day. and just giving you a heads up on it, it does look like the live channel may technically be in violation. it says that you have to give them exclusive rights to your vod for 24 hours. just a heads up, you might want to make that the delay on those uploads

Jack Schillawski

Hey Dan, what are your opinions on how we as individuals, communities and a society as a whole should deal with the rising Islamophobia and antisemitism in Britain (and the rest of the world)? In response to your response to my comment (that's a mouthful), my surname is pronounced my-a-kov in English or mih-kov in Russian. PS. Love your work. :)

Alex Myagkov

Dan, you know what I realized during this podcast? One of the reasons I like you, and ABSOLUTELY LOVE this podcast. It fills the same hole that the late late show used to fill. You have the same gift as Craig Ferguson has, that incredible ability to go from making me laugh my ass off to making me question my existance, to making me think about difficult topics. Your response to the events of 14 feb reminded me wholly of how craig dealt with the shooting in aurora colorado.

Jack Schillawski

As a an American I do feel like most Americans are over zealous when it comes to the United States flag, the pledge of allegiance and all of the patriotism that comes with it. I have viewed it sort of like how one would view the Queen. As the Queen is the symbol of your nation the flag is a symbol of our nation. However, I'm not totally sure if that is the right analogy and that American patriotism is exclusive to the US in this day and age. So Dan, I would like to ask if it is true that the Queen is to the UK as the flag is to the US?

Franklin Goodman

With direction in action movies do you prefer the American way of cutting away and letting the audiences' imagination to imply the punch or the Japanese way of long single shot choreographed fight scenes and which would you rather write and direct?

Question, is there any modern bands/musicien you like? (other than Childish Gambino [WE KNOW])

As an American I can confirm that (most) of the country views the US as if it were a religion. And like most religions it completely ignores all evidence against it. For a country that sees itself as the best place on the globe it is very much the social backwater of the world.

Tyler Kelley

Adam Savage put his position on guns perfectly in my opinion: "I think guns need to be murderously controlled – that’s a vital policy for a civilized society. Personally, I find guns both terrifying and fascinating. I don’t like holding something that’s built to kill things. But they’re beautiful pieces of machinery, and I’m also a child of my culture – I’m fascinated by guns because I grew up on a diet of action movies."

Tyler Kelley

I just don't wanna be another statistic.

Joël Mentor

At my high school, there's always discussion about how ineffective our lock down drills are. And always after a shooting there's a foreboding sense of we're next, and how unprepared we are for it.

Joël Mentor

Question, if everything tastes like chicken, what does chicken taste like?

I hear my name so suddenly and was so not expecting it that I literally jumped. it's nice to hear that you don't view your possible ASD in a negative way. Also it sounds like you have a number of good coping mechanisms. Also I love Rebecca 10 times more now because A big help in adult autism is a good spouse. I've seen the effects of Autistic adults that have meh/bad spouses and it's so not pretty. Also if you are Autistic then you are up there with Alan Turing and Temple Grandin, you are truly inspiring to all neurodiverse people.

As somebody diagnosed with high functioning aspergers syndrome (on the autistic spectrum) I can see where Rebecca is coming from. A diagnosis doesn't really matter too much though but if you did want to go for one just know it could take a long time. It took close to two years from first appointment with my gp to get a referral to formal diagnosis. If you were on the spectrum though you'd probably be considered high-functioning enough for it not to affect you.

Did you ever give Gravity Falls a shot? I enjoyed watching it with my siblings more than I expected. Tone gets darker as it goes along.

Elenne Madrone

Gumball is good. I do enjoy it. Never watched regular show, though. I've heard it's pretty good.

Sandwich247

In regards to pledging allegiance to the flag, only other time in modern history this was ever done was in Nazi Germany. It's bad news. Also, I love SAAS. I hope westminister doesn't kill all of Scotland's nice things. If we get the motions to leave the UK, you should come with us.

Sandwich247

Over two and and half hours. You mad bar steward! Looking forwards to listening tomorrow. It's not all been a light-hearted funny podcast, but it has been a very interesting, thoughtful, meaningful one which made it an excellent worthwhile listen so thank-you. I agree and hope you're right about connectivity due to the internet, it does feel like we're at a point where there's a big split in the population between a generation with a more global fewer social boundaries outlook and a generation who feel increasingly insular and are wanting to put up artificial barriers between people despite us all being humans.

Patrick Jackson

Also, i apologizes for the multiple comments, to get my point across but i always remember something as i hit enter. So the blu-ray Stargate, does it have the terrible artifacting that the amazon reviews seem to suggest? Oh, Atlantis was meant to have a film / 6th season but Universe got that canned... Non Stargate related question, Would you do a collaboration with Tom Scott?

I have given up on arguing about guns at this point, last week I was told "You haven't lived in the south so you have no right to debate about guns". That annoyed me for a few days.

Who made those monitors.... I feel they need to work on quality control... lol.

Can confirm, SG: Origins is shit, its a 10 parts web series, each episode is 10 mins... everything about it is crap, however on the stargatecommand.co website the first 30 mins / 3 episodes are free for everyone... So if you wana watch the first 30 mins then destroy it in a podcast... i would be listening to that one a few time :)

Hope you'll have a better week this time 'round!

Talking about supporting shitty people, there's a guy called Austin Jones; he made some really good a capella covers of songs and I bought them, but then after I bought them it turned out he was a paedophile; by which I mean he coerced 14-year-old fans into doing stripteases for him saying "if you were a real fan you'd do it"; so clearly not a good person. Now if he comes back and makes more music I wouldn't on principle buy any of it, but there's still the music I've already paid for, it's not like I can get my money back without considerable effort, but is listening to and enjoying the music still in a way supporting him? It's a bit of a dilemma

Narmatonia

What are your opinions of Iceland and would you move here?

Alexander Már Bjarnason

Hey Dan! We're running a Robot Wars style event at our University called Robot Fighting League (we already had two events this year, and the third is happening late April). If you would be interested in being special guest judge, hit me up! I know you don't know a lot about engineering, but you know more than a lot about Robot Wars, and that's plenty enough! If you're interested: luurfl.com/

Titusz Ban

Have you ever seen the movie Paul, with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost? I was wondering if it might be your kind of thing.

Taylor Jones

I like your attempts at pronouncing my name. I feel like we're really bonding over this. I'm really starting to get to know you. Will you marry me- I MEAN LISTEN TO THIS FILE WHERE I ACTUALLY PRONOUNCE IT FOR YOU! <a href="https://vocaroo.com/i/s0fSo88OyLQp" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://vocaroo.com/i/s0fSo88OyLQp</a> Sorry I explained it poorly last time! Also, about games to recommend: I recently backed "Foundation" on Kickstarter. It's a medieval city-builder/civ-builder thing. But it allows you some lovely freedom in designing monuments (churches, castles, etc.). Seems to me like you could really do something with that, along the lines of Planet Coaster (and especially the winter village you did).

Bjorn van Rijszen

I'm a big fan of candy. Can we just talk about candy for the next two hours? That would make the podcasts more positive :)

Owen Reid

Hey Dan I’m an up and coming game dev, would you check out my latest proper release ( <a href="https://john-clarks-fun-house.itch.io/killboard" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://john-clarks-fun-house.itch.io/killboard</a> ) or one of my other games? ( <a href="https://john-clarks-fun-house.itch.io/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://john-clarks-fun-house.itch.io/</a> ) As you are one of my favorite youtubers, it would mean a lot.

Dan, have you ever listened to Cabin Pressure? It's a radio 4 comedy starring Cumberbatch, Roger Allam and Stephanie Cole, about their lives as pilots as part of a dishevelled small airline company. I bring it up as you mentioned about talking to other dog walkers, and remembered one of the characters brings it up that "Anyone with a dog is allowed to talk to anyone else with a dog. It’s like a-a secret loophole for allowing the English to talk to strangers"

George Farren

What is your favourite moment in your gaming history, be it funny, impressive , etc?

Anthony Eickelman

With the dog making you talk to people thing, that really threw me off when it first happened, usually no one does anymore than acknowledge passers by in my area but now people actually stop and talk to me. Also, if you want any other suggestions for shows that you and Rebecca might enjoy, I'd suggest Regular Show and The Amazing World of Gumball.

RaptorBricks

I am really loving the long podcasts Dan, if you can, keep going please 💕💕 - no pressure

Siana Brooker

Speaking of Tom Scott, would you want to be on Citation Needed? I think you would work pretty well on there. Since they had Matt Parker on you're the only guest I want, that still has to do it.

Stefan Eisenreich

A Podcast I would recommend is "No Such Thing as a Fish" as podcast by the QI elves it's funny and informative, and "This is only a Test". Both should just be on their websites. Also if you want to listen to Podcasts on the go you can just listen to them via the Google app just search for them and you'll see a list of them naively in the app to expand to a full list which you can pin to the home screen, it will pull from site like iTunes, SoundCloud and other podcast sites

Shawn Lindsay

Is there any vintage technology you're fascinated by?

Stefan Eisenreich

Gilliam is the AI that runs the Outlaw Star in the anime Outlaw Star

Ian Hutchison

On the topic of shitty people creating good things I know it's not to do with games but recently in the anime community there's been some of the same discussions going around with one director in particular. The guys a massive racist and nazi, and openly expresses it on his twitter, yet he creates great shows and pieces of media. None of the things he creates feature any of his views but it still becomes hard, at least for me, to enjoy his work knowing all of this. I know he's not the only one working on these shows so not all the money is going to him but when he's essentially the person in charge it really does skew the way you see the work. Sorry for the long comment but I too find this whole discussion an interesting topic.

I did the math and the chance of getting that monitor error 3 times (using the statistics you said) is 1 in 14 Billion (using 60!/(9!*51!))

Listening to this while watching the anti gun rally speech is hitting hard. I'm fortunate that I haven't had to ever experience anything like what has happened but fuck I hope this senseless defence of guns dies.

James G. Jones

I did get the email for the Rss feed in case you were looking for a mention of that. Loving the podcasts as always.

What's your favourite recipe when cooking for a huge amount of people? Cooking for a dozen next week including a vegetarian

Joe Blackburn

My opinion as someone with depression is that it is normal in the way that the flu is normal. It’s something that can happen to lots of people and you shouldn’t feel wrong for having it but it’s still something to get rid of because it not good but still normal.

Thanks for the podcast to start the week at uni! Hate working in group projects, people are unreliable and hard to work with. Had someone last semester who didn't communicate or do work assigned to him.

Hi Dan! As someone who owns 6 various long coats ranging from knee to ankle length, you need to think vintage. Seriously, head down brick lane in London or go to Armstrong's in Edinburgh, and you will have more choices of wonderful coats than you know what to do with. Also, consider yourself reminded to do your TV rundowns!

Well Read Nomad

also do you prefer being called Dan over Daniel or is it just something people called you and it stuck? Personally I hate being called Dan

Daniel Bennett

Hey Dan, my partner is vegan and she mostly uses the grated cheese called 'pizza melty' which isn't tooo bad. and we recently discovered that if you spritz it with spray oil or just brush it a little IT MELTS! I hope this is helpful for you and Rebecca

Daniel Bennett

You could consider Create Space for publishing. They print and send the book to order. May or may not be helpful to you.

Huccaby Brown

Usually a tweet by Dan or Matt on Twitter to announce it.

Dan, how do you reach out to the community for stuff like audio for the 2500th video and the Paradox video? If I knew how to contribute to that stuff, I absolutely would.

Arcade Cat

You should check out Richard Herring's Leicester Square Theatre Podcast(RHLSTP), it's just him having a funny chat with comedians for an hour, and occasionally asking emergency questions, like "would you rather have a ham-hand, or an armpit that dispenses sun-cream?"

CJ

Dude, those chocolate seashells are seriously fuckiung amazing.

Also, I don't think there's a way to do a special Patreon livestream without it being done on Patreon itself - although, if I remember right Patreon does do that ... I don't know.

Have you ever had vegan mayonaise? We have it at work and it tastes like mayonaise at first, but the taste quickly turns to band aid....

Did you actually talk about The Joel McHale Show or skip passed it in your notes? There's a reference to it before the gun/car section but you reference that you talked about it prior to that.

I've noticed the same issues with premier when editing off a lower performance drive, have you tried editing footage stored on an SSD, this would certainly be an issue if you're trying to edit 4k 60fps footage!

Hi Live comments :p

There's a question for you, Daniel. Have you ever twatted someone who's walked into the room, whilst you're playing VR, without telling you - or have you only hit inanimate objects "sorry, lampshade!"?

ThisDamnScotsman

Dan, fun fact about your cars analogy! That's not exactly true... There was a recorded incident of a car company that WENT TO COURT for killing like 30 people because the exhaust fumes choked them inside there cars. They got off scott free, by proving it would have COST THEM MORE MONEY to fix the defect in the design, because they were well aware it'd kill people. Yay, Management Science lectures are fun for me.

Also where the hell is Andrew O'Neil?

MxChatter

Whilst he's not subtitled and his shows are in English, Gabriel Iglesias is a very funny Latino comedian.

MxChatter

sorry your week's been shitty, hope this one's better

Andyface

Do you have a favourite film score composer? I love Alan Menken (of Disney fame) he did a great comedy musical series called Galavant.

I like watching the comments slowly roll in

Henry

Do you have any good sci-fi or fantasy book recommendations?
