Mike Bithell and I talk about an episode of Doctor Who set just 8 years before Doctor Who started.

Fuck.

Just to put this here. The space racist. Is a Spacist.

Arran

Real sorry Dan, but i had to lower my donation from 12 to 2, running on fumes right now, but i still want to support someone who just fucking loves what they do

Chewing_Soup

I think an amazing ending would have been for the doctor to fail and for the correct situation to not have been created in time. They all think that they've lost, but Rosa is so strong-willed that she creates the same impact anyway, to show that it is her, and not fate, that sparked the civil rights movement.

Stan Gaskell

I find It interesting how few people have died this series. Davies or Moffat would almost certainly have had some disposable racers to shoe how dangerous Desolation was, and the it's left very ambiguous how deadly the temporal displacement gun is. In all likelihood the spiders will get us back to business as usual, but given that The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances was apparently the first time since Peter Davidson that everybody had lived this feels conspicuous and I'm wondering if they're setting up a new status quo so that when a side character is killed off it'll be extra devastating

Tom Chaney

This episode is massive simply because a character said 'Paki'. I think this will get conveniently forgotten but actually this does something radical to the show.

David Eastman

can you tell mike that Thomas was alone is broken on the mac version

Rhio Hamilton

I guess the danger by doing stuff like that is then you alienate racism and make it seem like there weren't just people who were cunty racists

D&D Lemur

Enjoying the WhoCast and I would listen to pretty much any podcast you make Dan.

Lewis Corby

The only thing I didn’t like about this episode was (unless I missed something), what was the point of the baddie? It felt like “hey look, it’s a space racist because... racist!” I did want more of a reason for him. Not that racism isn’t bad enough to be a villain, because it is, but if you have a space racist with a vortex manipulator, is he only going back to Rosa parks? Is he touring big moments to screw them all up? Did he found the kkk? Give me more reasons dang it.

StrandedPatrick

Loving these doctor who podcasts but I DEMAND A LOVE ACTUALLY PODCAST! That would be the best thing!

James Rowe

Its graham standing to leave due to not wanting to be involved that means rosa needs to move, as when he stands someone took his seat and the driver sees a white man standing so, rosa needs to move, so graham not wanting to be involved makes him the reason rosa needed to move, clever writing

Struan Robertson

I know it's off topic but I fucking love the Mario Party streams they're hilarious!

Narmatonia

A love actually Podcast would be the greatest thing on this patreon

Alex Janmo

I'm going to agree with Dan about the next episode; I'm not going to fully watch it since spiders. I mean I'll try but I'm going to be under so many pillows.

Jordan Mair

it being on sunday sucks for me since I'm in Australia and it's monday so i have to wait til i get back from school to watch it.

Jaxom

That's what I thought considering he knew what a TARDIS was.

Taylor Page

I liked this episode I think we definitely haven’t seen the last of the ‪Krasko‬ he knew that the doctor ship was a Tardis so I don’t think he’s actually human the time lords where quite xenophobic and racist so he could potentially be a time lord

Capaldis Doctor actually punched a racist in Thin Ice

Dion Hale

Its so good to be able to look forward to doctor who each week. I loved this epsiode... I was kinda holding back tears at some points. I watched it in school time (study period, not class) but yeah some bits made me feel pretty uncomfortable. Especially when ryan gets slapped I was like what? Oh crap wow I forgot. But I'll probably just listen to the next one... spiders can eff off... and I live in Australia rip

Malachy Hamilton

A small thing, I feel like there are a lot of shots that are kind of out of focus. I feel like it's supposed to be part of the style, but it went a bit far at times.

Jellex

Also, I'm surprised you guys didn't talk about the potential romance between Yas and Ryan - the bit where he says that she was out of that boy's league and there was a comment about him accidentally paying her a compliment.

Joseph Hewitt

I felt like the Doctor's friends fit very well into this episode, it was as though they had written the episode first and then picked the companions to fit into it.

Joseph Hewitt

Enjoying these Doctor Who podcasts, are these now temporarily replacing the Patreon podcast or will they be returning before the series of Doctor Who ends? I'm missing your usual updates and ramblings!

MrAndyTF

Weird prediction: That villain never actually came out and said he was racist against black people, he said he was racist against "your kind". I'm guessing he's a racist against the human race and will show up again later in the series still trying to stop human progress.

Matthew Barus

dan modern who ,modern who how did you miss it .will accept post-modern who

ben

Casey Holloway

It made the connection to the real world much bigger; loved this episode

Charlie Posey

They ended with the astroid because it's actually real, once I learned that I actually thought it was really touching.
