The Patreon Podcast - Episode 91 - A Sad Week

I know I'm late to the podcast, but your experience of your loss is eerily similar to mine who I lost in Mid-August with the same expected, yet still unexpected long goodbye. I find it's hard to remember her beyond her finals days and moments but all you can try to do is remember her as she would want to be remembered. Easy to write, hard to do I know.

I was actually at my own nans funeral yesterday and it was certainly a very surreal experience with half the family not there. :( Please, please don't beat yourself up about not writing/recording anything. Sorry to hear that Dan, I won't listen anymore because my nan died recently but I hope getting it off your chest helped, it's always a tough time when you lose a grandparent so just keep your mind on the positives like at least you don't have to go through it alone. Hope you’re ok Dan, I lost my Nan (she liked it spelt Nanz because she thought it was cooler 😌) a while back. Sorry you don’t get to go to the funeral but just remember her in the way I imagine she would have liked and just get the most out of life.

Thanks for taking the time to talk to us, it's really good to hear about this kinda stuff, the real, crappy times that people deal with. I also put on Christmas music sporadically during the year, just to cheer me up and give me something to look forward to. It's a therapy in itself.

Hi Dan i hope youre okay i lost my grandma and a very close family friend this year during lockdown so i understand how youre feeling, especially when it happens during lockdown! Sorry to hear about your loss Dan. Please take care of yourself. Dementia (and Alzheimer’s as well) is a cunt when it comes to these things. My grandfather died when I was young (13 I think?) and for the last year of his life, I wasn’t allowed to see him because he didn’t remember us or his kids. It’s always really hard when you lose a grandparent, especially during a time like this where you can’t go through the grieving process properly and attend the funeral/party and talk to your family.

My gran's got dementia, so she's probably only got at most a couple years. Degenerative brain disease is the worst, the only solace with it is the person afflicted generally doesn't really have too much a hard time with it, as long as they're cared for. As our ability to treat common diseases gets better, still like cancer and degenerative brain diseases seems to be taking out more and more people. I do believe that cures for them, along with organ failures and the like, will be cured within our lifetimes, though.

Thank you for this Dan, for us it was not required at all but if it helped you in your grief and was what your nan would have wanted to carry on etc then all power to her approach to life. My nan who I was very close to passed from cancer and my mum has just been diagnosed with the same and that completely sucks but thanks to your whole family for nurturing you and your swearing ability as you are my go to pick me up that never fails to work! I know Rebecca will take great care of you, surround yourself with her loving kindness and all the small furries.

My Granddad passed away a few months ago during the height of covid and I was lucky enough to be able go but it was even worse because we knew it wasn't how it would have been.
