Update on YouTube Ads
Added 2023-12-04 20:46:49 +0000 UTCHELLO, MATT HERE.
Just a little update on YouTube Ads as an addendum to what Daniel spoke about in his monthly update post.
YouTube have recently change how monetization settings work. Previously, you were able to enable monetization (and thus YouTube Premium revenue) while manually disabling all ad types. This allowed us to have all our videos be ad-free while also not cutting off the £1k a month income from YouTube Premium.
However YouTube have 'simplified' the settings to now just be on or off. This means that you can no longer collect YouTube Premium revenue while disabling ads, which put us in a really tough spot. HOWEVER I HAVE FOUND A WORKAROUND.
All videos going forward (including any videos released this month) will have two versions. A specific 'Patreon Version' which is what will go up on here (With a Patreon 'P' in the thumbnail). These videos will be unlisted, yet have monetization disabled and thus be ad free. Then a separate but identical version of the video will release to the public later, which will have monetization enabled (and by extension, ads). This means we can still provide ad free versions of videos to all of you without cutting a really significant chunk of money off.
Just wanted to clear that up if any of you were wondering about it. It's classic YouTube removing control, but this is our workaround to hopefully have the best of both worlds!

The only difference would be the day or so delay, if you watch the regular versions. If you want to still watch them day of Patreon release, you can always just turn the regular video on when you're going to be away from your PC for a bit and have it run with the speakers off.

I don't mind the ads too much anyways, and if I ever get annoyed with them, I will blame youtube, not you. I really appreciate the way you guys are handling things!
