Saw a cartoon on the internet , not sure if it is a legitimate one, with Charlie Brown and Peppermint Patty sitting under a tree
Patty asks "What's happening to the this younger generation Charlie Brown?"
Charlie Brown responds : "It all started with bicycle helmets, and now it's "everyone gets a trophy" . Kids don't know what it's like to feel pain when they do something stupid.
Stupid should hurt."

That's a real, and quite nasty gash. At 6:48... when the back of his hand is turned full on, it looks to me like he ripped himself between the knuckles of his pinky and ring finger. That is about the angle of his hand when it made contact with the blade.
I can assure you that fresh blood in quantity can look that bright. Blood that is oxygenated and coming to the area is a bright red, oxygen-depleted blood, returning to the heart and lungs through the veins, is darker, more purple.
These people are typical teenagers, only interested in being cool, like he's seen in so very many videos, movies, manga, pop culture. He is excited to try it out, which is one thing (aren't we all?), but he isn't patient enough to seek out training to learn how to do anything.
Thus no real sense of how to work a sword. Obviously none of them have bothered to get trained in first aid, either. In a moment of pain, people will not act calmly and rationally, and from what I see, their reactions are fully in accord with the sort of panic untrained people have when things become sanguinary. One person screams 'call 911' and that's about the extent of their ability.
