Strongest in DxD - Chapter 38

Dinner had taken place normally, or as normally as it could.

Especially after Arturia ate all of her food and tried to eat the others' food and there was almost a fight there, which was stopped by Ren making more food.

And that made Ren come to a conclusion.

That if he wanted to keep his servants he would need to increase the food supply.

Afterwards Ren left each one in a room, like Gilgamesh announcing that the larger room was hers but the irritation of the others.

And also the fact that Okita wanted to sleep in the same room as Ren to protect him only to be dragged by the other servants to his room.

The Sekiryuutei had talked to them and also agreed on new clothes for each of them, as they couldn't walk around with their armor or their exotic and different clothes.

After each went to their room to sleep the house had gone silent while only one person was awake.

Ren was sitting quietly on the porch of his house while his gaze was fixed on the sky as he gazed at the stars.

At his side was his trusty holy spear [True Longinus] which rested peacefully beside Ren.

The strongest Longinus wielder was looking at the stars with a small smile on his face, this was something he usually did after training with his Longinus.

It's not because he had servants now that his routine would change.

"Are you awake master?" a voice asked from behind Ren.

The SlashDog turned and saw the long white hair and a sword at the waist that only a servant had.

Okita was standing calmly a few feet away from Ren as she watched him with her eyes fixed.

"What happened Okita?" Ren asked calmly.

The Sekiryuutei enjoyed the time he spent with the swordsman servant, she was very quiet and rarely spoke, but both liked to fixate on each other's presence.

Apparently Jin, the avatar of Longinus [Canis Lykaon], was very fond of Okita as she had made a link with the Dog God of the Black Blade, although currently Jin was within Ren's shadow at rest.

"Why aren't you sleeping master?" Okita asked calmly.

Unlike the minions who were beings who didn't need to eat or sleep, Ren was a human, and no matter how strong he was, he still needed those basic human needs.

Although Okita thought Ren could go days or weeks without sleep due to his intense training.

"I'm not very sleepy. Is that you?" asked Ren looking up at the stars.

Okita, who was behind Ren, inched forward a little and stood beside him and knelt down.

"I'd like to thank you for giving me the chance of a life that couldn't possibly exist," Okita said deeply.

She was extremely grateful to Ren for giving her this chance to live, Okita Alter was nothing more than a Contra Guardia created based on the Heroic Spirit Okita Souji.

So for her having this life that shouldn't be possible Okita was extremely grateful to Ren.

"No need to thank me," Ren said calmly.

Okita shook his head in denial: "I need you, you gave me a purpose and that's why I will serve you until the end of my life master" Okita said firmly.

Ren put on a thoughtful look and smiled, "So how about I help you find a new purpose?"

"Which?" asked Okita not understanding.

"Although I like you and the others as my servants I won't force you to serve me, if one day you find something you truly wanted I won't stop you, you're free Okita" said Ren calmly.

The servant widened her eyes at her master's speech, few were as understanding as Ren.

"I understand, thank you master" said Okita smiling slightly.

"No need to call me master, call me Ren" said the strongest Longinus wielder calmly.

"Now I think you better go lie down Okita. I would like to fight you tomorrow, to test me against the incomparable swordsman genius" said Ren making Okita blush at the amount of praise.

"I'm looking forward to Ren" said Okita smiling and retreating to her room.

Ren watched as she sighed and turned her gaze to the sky.

Ren's eyes quickly moved to another point in the room: "How long are you going to stay hidden in there?" Ren asked calmly.

Coming out from behind a wall came the Witch of Dragons with her white hair streaming down her back and her golden eyes fixed on Ren.

"You noticed me. Well I shouldn't be surprised" said Jalter sighing calmly.

"It's kind of hard for you to suppress that crushing power of your Jalter," Ren said, chuckling along with the servant Avenger

"I see" said Jalter with a chuckle: "You are really kind master" said Jalter.

From Ren's interactions with all of them, they could assume that, especially after Ren's conversation with Okita and everyone else.

Jalter couldn't imagine a master who would let his servants choose if they wanted to serve him, many would likely use the command seals to compel them, unlike Ren who gave them an option.

"Kind? Do you consider me kind?" Ren asked calmly.

"Yes," said Jalter, nodding his head, "Don't you consider yourself?"

Ren let out a laugh as she looked up at the sky: "I don't know. If I were to compare all the good and bad things I've done I don't think anyone would call me kind"

"Well, I guess that applies to a lot of us, not that I'm someone to judge you," Jalter said calmly.

"Yeah," Ren said with a laugh.

Both were silent as they contemplated the beauty of the stars that shone in the sky.

"What do you want to ask Jalter?" Ren asked calmly.

The SlashDog knew the Avenger servant had wanted to ask him something from the moment she arrived.

"What happened to you to want revenge?" asked Jalter taking a seat next to Ren.

The avenging servant was curious about this, she wanted revenge against France after being burned at the stake and accused of treason.

So she wanted to know what happened to her master.

Ren sighed as he began to tell his story of Jalter, from his childhood to the day his parents and sister were killed and also everything he's seen in recent years.

Jalter couldn't believe what he was hearing, what the Three Factions were willing to do.

Ren told her how his family died, that when he arrived he saw his father dead and his mother and sister who had been killed and abused, to put it mildly, that the Three Factions did this to a child.

And even if Ren's family hadn't been a victim and they had caught him, everything would have gone wrong, the exorcists, Demons and Fallen Angels would fight to see that he would stay with Ren and probably his family would die and Ren would become a slave, as Jalter doubted he would willingly serve.
