FAQ : Which browser should I use to play 'The Academy'?
Added 2023-10-12 15:54:24 +0000 UTCThe Academy is a browser based interactive game which uses internet browser cookies to create, record and store achievements, scores and a few other variables while playing each chapter.
These can then be saved and carried over to the next chapter and so on.
Different browsers handle cookies and variables in different ways which can be frustrating when they do something you don't want them to.
Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge are particularly difficult because of the way they hang onto cookies even if you don't want them to.
For this reason, we only recommend using Mozilla Firefox to play the game.
Due to the way Firefox stores, or rather doesn't store cookies between sessions, that's the only browser we recommend using.
If you close Firefox, it deletes any cookies from that session.
Everything else tends to hang onto cookies, particularly Chrome and anything Chrome based like Edge.

Why are cookies so important?
Each game save should be independent from one another. So a Chapter One save played in one session, should record the achievements from that session only.
The achievements and character scores are recorded as an array of browser based cookies.
Selected parts of this array can 'carry over' to the next chapter.
By selecting which save to use, you can have a series of achievements which go back throughout the pathway and trigger different things throughout the story.
Sometimes this can mean going back to earlier chapters to pursue different character pathways at the expense of others.
You can for example play a strong Annie game at the expense of a strong Lola game.

Accurate game saves rely on a 'clean' set of cookies being stored at the save points.
There are a few things which can compromise this and they are mostly based on which browser you use as well as how you use it.
