Hi Everyone!
It's always fun to dig through an old sketchbook to see what kind of silliness is in there. I found a book from the early 2000s. This was shortly after Nufonia Must Fall was released, when I began to start filling many sketchbooks with characters to see if any would catch my attention and spawn a new story.
In the image above you can see an early iteration of an artichoke character that would eventually become Artie Chaux "The Clarinet King" in The Storyville Mosquito. There's also a drawing of a cicada, porcupine, and a penguin.
Below you can see an early iteration of a star-nosed mole who makes a cameo at the Karaoke Bar in The Storyville Mosquito. Also on the bottom of the page there's a 4-legged box of alfalfa sprouts who is not in any of the shows yet... but who knows! maybe someday! Top right is an early drawing of a seal on bass who would evolve into a walrus on bass and is now part of the Creatures cast.

Sometimes I would just riff on a theme to see what would happen. Here are some characters based on household appliances like mixers, ice cube trays, cheese graters grills, telephones and blenders...

Sometimes I just draw things that I see. This next page was drawn on tour while I was at a restaurant that had a dessert menu. The guy on the top left is a Baked Alaska. There's also a sundae, a wise and tough-looking crème brulée and some sort of layered parfait thingy.

My favourite character on that page may be the Baked Alaska. He clearly has some stories to tell, what with the standing there being slightly on fire and everything. Lol
Anyhow! Enjoy!
