A soldier's retirement

Salvete Patrons,

A new film weekend with new content. Last weekend we were working on footage for a new documentary about different types of Roman armor. We also filmed footage for our partner Invicta about the retirement of Roman soldiers. Our blacksmith and valued friend Simon has played the part of a soldier who retires after 25 years of loyal service and is living forwards to a well-earned civilian life.

Auxilia soldiers who did not yet had Roman citizenship received this right after 25 years as part of their retirement. Soldiers who already possessed Roman citizenship were rewarded in a different way, usually with a piece of land to build a house or to start a family or farm.

The weather was terribly bad, which forced us to shoot a lot of footage indoors. Despite the setback, the images succeeded and we were able to create something beautiful again. We have also made many pictures and short videos that we will share with you as soon as possible.
