With locals claiming there has been an increase in the cost of living, competition for housing, car accidents, and overall social resource drainage, the new Haitian residents claim they have economically revived the otherwise dying town by providing a fresh labor supply and starting new businesses.
I showed up myself to Charleroi, camera in hand, to see how the town is handling the influx of migrants, if they are assimilating to American culture, how they got here in the first place, if they’ll be voting, and if they’re an economic asset or liability to the town.
