2026-01-22 08:16:24 +0000 UTCFunny timing when Steph said "gates of hell" at the scene where an old man was stacking rocks, it's actually really accurate: In Japanese Pure Landβinfluenced folklore, children who die young are sent to a stony riverbank called Sai no Kawara, on the way to the Sanzu River (the border of the afterlife). Because they βcaused griefβ by dying before their parents and had no time to accumulate merit, they must endlessly pile small stone towers as penance and to pray for their parents. In this island though the ideas are twisted so what you saw was an old man stacking stones. Typically it's demons (oni) or the hag who repeatedly knock down the stone piles and torment the children, forcing them to rebuild.

The only element we got in the narration when Gabimaru lose his memory and got it back was to develop his bindings with Sagiri, and I feel like this relationship getting stronger and stronger is not compatible with the existence of Yui

2026-01-20 05:46:10 +0000 UTCOne of the things with Gabimaru's wife that i don't see people really talk about is that while it is a legitimate thing for Yuzuriha to bring up, she is quite selfish and duplicitous up to this point and it serves her wants and desires if Gabimaru abandons his quest for the elixir. That is what she is trying to get everyone to do. She will couch it in terms like "logic" and "reason" to try to get people to agree with her but in the end it's motivated not by a desire to get to some truth but a desire to convince. Mostly i see people think about in terms of is she real or not, and not really questioning Yuzuriha's motives for suggesting she isn't real in the first place
