It's the other way around on the designated hitter. The National League used a DH in the pandemic season, and then adopted it permanently for the 2022 season, so now both leagues have a DH. In 2022 MLB actually made the "Shohei Ohtani Rule" that allows a pitcher to remain in the game as the DH after they have finished pitching, to allow Ohtani to continue batting in the whole game that he's starting.
