I've never seen Lain before, so I'm glad I had this show as an excuse to watch it. It's pretty wild so far.. I would be down for more anime, strike or not, since I'm only recently getting into it. Enjoying it so far, excited to finish it up!

Watching this with my partner and housemate, having previously watched it decades (!) prior and these podcasts have been a good addendum to each chunk of episodes. Got my issues with the back half (up to episode 10, so not quite through) but it has been interesting revisiting and contrasting to contemporary times - occasionally very much a product of its time but more often incredibly smart and prescient, particularly those first 7 or so episodes.

I’ve watched Lain before and had absolutely no idea what was going on. I decided to rewatch along with the Watchcast episodes and it’s been helping me understand so much more, as well as helping me form some of my own theories not discussed in the podcast itself. Hope you guys cover more anime even after the writers strike ends, because I’ve thoroughly been enjoying this.

By the last batch of episodes, I got the sense that Lain had more than just distant/strange parents. That she was treated like an imposter only wanted by her dad. But now that it's been alluded to I'm waiting for that to be un-confirmed. Did the dad want some digital/Wired ghost daughter made manifest because he's such a Wired geek and found a way to do so? Or did their real Lain die and was revived through techno-ESP dark magic? Either would explain why the Mom is so deadpan. Or has the Mom's consciousness gotten lost in the Wired long ago?
