Lots of IKEA desktops were made with corrugated cores, as in giant cardboard honeycomb. Good luck in your drilling adventures! Most (all?) "IT" style racks require nuts, broadcast/radio/telecom racks typically have threaded holes. I have to deal with the latter type in my day job. Check out Home Depot's Husky lineup of workbenches. They come in a couple different sizes and some have manual sit/stand cranks (slow but reliable!). They're meant to be workbenches but they make great desks. Add a cable basket to the bottom of the desk to store cable slack.

The stud finder bit was excellent. Five pretzels out of five.

Really was hoping to hear about the NJ drones! What is going on? Iran?

Springs in a foundation (slab) is called a post-tension slab. It’s to reduce damage to a house during an earthquake
