Tuesday Showcase #17: Having a hard time on Chapter 30

I am currently working on Chapter 30. It started as a Vignette, but I thought the idea was interesting enough to get its own chapter. I though I'd finish it quickly, and hop on to the larger Chapter 31.
Chapter 30 would have let you watch Laura tease another guy in a group chat. You'd watch as she would pull on his chains, and see how he would react, and the things he'd tell her.
My current issue is that, while the basis is fun, I'm having a hard time making it actually interesting. Mainly because you're supposed to be passive, which means the text keeps scrolling without any input from your part.
I'll try to incorporate another idea into it, to make that teasing part an introduction to a different scenario, but at this point, I cannot guarantee the Chapter will get released in 0.15. If I don't feel I can make it work, I'll stash it somewhere for the future, and start working on what was supposed to be Chapter 31 instead.
Releases and leaks
On top of the new content, I'm looking into a better method of sharing the new releases for Supporters. Version 0.14 has been leaked to various websites in a couple hours, meaning that people paying to get early access didn't actually enjoy it.
And, well, let's be pragmatic, it also means no one subscribed to get that version early. I usually get a small subscribers increase on release date, but this time, I even lost some. Strangely, the number started to get lower right after the leak...
On top of these issues, this leak has demoralized me a bit. A week that already wasn't really good became even worse (and it even went downhill from there).
So, starting with version 0.15, the version released to Supporters might be a specific build, that would ask you to authenticate yourself with Patreon to unlock it. This seems to be the only viable way to make sure the build stays exclusive to Supporters for the first week, until a Public build gets released.
I know this isn't really a good news, and that's something I would have liked to avoid, but my back is to the wall now.

I know I personally complained that the story has been dragging. Can't expect people to support something they aren't enjoying anymore.

And how the relationship evolved? it can have variations after all and pictures. It would make it more less like story then SMS-s but it can be always put as something that would change if better idea appeared.

The presence of things like Denuvo doesn't annoy me (as long as it doesn't impact performance), but I still think it should be removed if it has exhausted its usefulness. I'm not going to spend too much time working on protection, impacting the game itself on the way. I can promise you that.

I support you because I think your project is interesting, and the game getting leaked early doesn't make me reconsider my support. My general thought towards piracy is that the type of people who are going to support your game are going to do so regardless if the game gets leaked early. The type of people who are willing to financially support creators are not the type of people to pull support because of leaks. That's atleast been my experience. As a creator I totally understand the frustration; try not to let it get you down.

2024-12-18 03:15:41 +0000 UTChere how it's going to work the dev will work to integrate some kind of protection requiring login information to patreon in 3rd party software, which is probably will be already violation of dozen patreon policies the smart pirates will remove this protection in 10-15 minutes the lazy pirates will publish the game with user name / password so, dev need to block them, which is again violation of some patreon policies dev will start work more on protection than on the game itself smart pirates will have more and more fun lazy pirates will use more and more 5 dollar gift card to have new subscription and receive from patreon cashback for banned accounts until cashback will raise all red flags on dev's account and patreon will block dev account all normal customers will be suffering from this stupid competition

2024-12-17 17:26:11 +0000 UTCI second, or third, or, fourth...whatever, I support making Patreon exclusive builds. Artists should be compensated for their work. A middle ground would be using passcodes to unlock chapters, but those usually get leaked too, eventually.

I love the concept of earlier access so that everyone can eventually enjoy it for free, but developers can get the financial support they need as well. As such, leaks are super annoying as it just ends up hurting everyone in the long term, including those who got it for free, as it often demoralizes the developer and sometimes can lead into the halt of development entirely (I have seen this a few times unfortunately and I hate it so much because I enjoy the content and want more). With that being said, I am glad the authentication aspect is being added. One game I have played before had it where their Patreon was somehow linked to a unique key which is needed to unlock each update. Hopefully this also helps in finding out who is leaking the content early if necessary so you can ban them or something, or at least demoralize them into not leaking content in the future.

2024-12-17 12:07:41 +0000 UTCIf the money is the problem then those people will not pay regardless if you add the DRM or not but you make things harder for normal users/subscribers. I will always be against such practices. If a game wants to do something like that then I will simply find the pirated version so I won't be bothered with the DRMs and other shit. Like for example new God of War on PC forcing people to create and link their PSN accounts. I will simply find the mod to strip that functionality or do other things that would allow me to play in a normal way. Other points is like Denuvo and other s**t that drops the performance of the game, degrades your disk etc.

2024-12-17 11:04:35 +0000 UTCI follow a few other creators who link Patreon to Itch.io or other sites to verify subs. I've never had any issues, or even recommended content based on my subscriptions. So I think Itch at least really do only check whether you're actually subbed.

They have a free base version, and that seems to mitigate the paywell issue well by letting new people find their game without paying first. The number of new subs who find a pirated version - like you, thank you by the way, it's like the piracy version of white hat hacking - are going to be small next to the number of subs he already has and will likely continue to lose who think "why should I pay when I can get it for free?" Money's tight for most at the moment, many will jump at the chance to save some without losing anything.

2024-12-17 10:55:32 +0000 UTCThe DRM authentication I don't foresee being a major issue. It works well for Andrealphus Games, who do it for all their releases. The number of new subs who find a pirated version would be minimal compared to the paying subs you'd lose who think "why pay, I can get it free." I would recommend releasing a free version of the game, perhaps up to the first blowjob Laura gives, to balance out the DRM lock. That will give new people a chance to find your games.

About the suscribe problem, there was a Guy who made a ntr novel "the mist" slowburngame his name, he could put a stamp on download and know who put his novel on pirate site and ban him, he"s on suscribestar with the novel "undercover "

2024-12-17 10:52:49 +0000 UTCI would advise you to be cautious about making a DRM, every creator who does that takes a big hit because of that and to be honest people who like your game and are willing to pay will simply pay because of the quaility and effort you put in as well as wanting to see more from you. I am one of those people I got a pirate version of your game, it was awesome I decided to support you. The extreme example of how badly it could go is maybe FallenEros with My Wife Hana game. This developer does everything to lock the content of the game and it looks like he puts more effort every update to the DRM then actually adding new content.
