We contribute because we are Patrons of the Arts. I do it because I want encourage the people I like to dedicate more time to creating. It's not a subscription. I don't feel it entitles me to criticize Paul's life choices. If you feel your patronage is being abused, withdraw it. Certainly a lot more effective than griping.

2015-08-02 21:21:05 +0000 UTCTo answer the frothing ones, yes, I've moved. For many years I was moving every 6-9 months due to work. I know well how horrible internet companies can be. I still take responsibility for my work and my issues. I make a choice to be honest and communicative when things don't go as expected. I have empathy for the situation, but a business, as this is, has responsibilities to clients. Yes, he did say he would be away. He's been on FB pretty regularly, so internet is obviously not the huge issue you are making it out to be. Plenty of places have free wifi. A friend could have posted on his behalf. It's not that hard to get a simple message to the internet. He chose to set his pledges at a month of comics per pledge and said a month of comics would be 5-7 comics per week. He could have chosen not to process donations for the month. He chose to process them anyway. I think that is less than honest. All I am suggesting is that he should have communicated prior to processing to notify people that the terms of the pledge were not met this month but he would process anyway, or he could have not processed. Many people, including myself would probably have let the pledge stand. You also assume that I was enjoying the comic for years without supporting it in any way. and that is simply not true. I came to the comic pretty recently, have bought much merchandise, and donated to his car fund, then Patreon once it was available. Don't speak to what you don't know, and try to be civil. Yelling is not helpful.

2015-08-02 03:51:50 +0000 UTCReally. He could have logged on to the internet and posted this message without having any internet access. Perhaps you could also explain how you expect him to do this? Not everyone has a Starbucks on the next corner. No, really.

2015-08-02 03:21:56 +0000 UTCThere was ample notice given ON THE COMIC PAGE that he was moving. If you are not interested in supporting someone while they're in the process of moving, simply because they do not have internet access and all their comic producing materials are packed up, then it is your responsibility to adjust your pledges accordingly. For someone who *has no internet access* finding someplace to connect long enough to take care of critical failures *due to* not having access is difficult enough. Finding someplace secure to do such things as adjusting matters here would be virtually impossible. He had already heard from many of us that we were choosing to support him through his move, partially in thanks for the many years he did NOT have Patreon or any way of generating consistent financial support yet faithfully produced the comic for us anyway. If you choose not to do so, adjust your pledges accordingly. Accusing someone who has already given you so much of taking advantage of your support is, at best, a cheap shot.

2015-08-02 03:18:40 +0000 UTCSee previous. HOW IN THE HECK do you expect the man to communicate ANYTHING if he CAN'T GET ON THE (EXPLETIVE) INTERNET to do so?????

2015-08-02 02:36:40 +0000 UTCReally? REALLY? REALLY????? Have you ever moved into a new house at all? If so, ever have things go absolutely haywire after doing so? Something wasn't working, you weren't getting your mail forwarded right, your cable company suddenly turned around and said "SORRY WE DON'T SERVICE YOUR AREA HAHA PHHHBBBT"? If not, then you have very little to complain about. Paul is a self-employed artist. What happened with the (so called) "communications" companies that were giving him grief during the time he moved in was PART OF THE DEAL of what he did to create Wapsi Square. He GAVE adequate warning; he DID POST on FB (his only avenue at the time, since said "communications" company wasn't giving him Net Access) that things had gone south with said internet service. GIVE THE GUY A BREAK ALREADY. It's bad enough his ISP/Cable company hasn't.

2015-08-02 02:33:43 +0000 UTCYou could have, for interest, sent a message out to your Patrons saying that since many/most expressed interest in supporting you during this hiatus, you will process your monthly pledges at [date], [time]. However, if someone did not want to be charged, they should cancel their pledge for this month by that time. That would have been professional, honest, and appreciated communication.

2015-08-02 02:12:47 +0000 UTCPaul, I don't know that you really should have claimed a month of Patronage and processed full payment given that you've taken half a month off. Prior to that you were doing a lot of posting of character sketches. These you sell on Ebay, so I don't feel it's appropriate that you also receive Patronage for them as well. You already receive income for those. If you want to post them as bonus material or weekend filler, sure, but it's not the comic. I really enjoy your comic, and I'm here to support receiving comic posts regularly, 5 days a week. If you intend Patreon to fund something other than regular Wapsi comic posts, you should clarify that on your Patreon page so that Patronage can be adjusted accordingly. Right now, thought, it doesn't really feel like you're taking this seriously as a business relationship, and I feel a little used and taken for granted.
