Checking In.

Since I haven't really talked about it in detail I'll tell you the saga of this month & why I didn't get much posted. I think I started getting genuinely sick on the 5th. I'm not exactly sure. In any case I spent 5 days in bed so sick I could barely move to avoid soiling myself. It had all the symptoms of covid, but I tested negative.

Simultaneously I got a bacterial infection in my right foot. Basically the same kind of thing that destroyed my left leg several years ago. I was so sick that I didn't really notice the infection until I was able to walk regularly again. I tried to get my regular doctor to give me a round of antibiotics to hold me over until I could get in to see them, but they wouldn't do it. So I had to wait an entire day and a half to get into a local clinic to see some rando. I went in still extremely sick, but was able to get a week's worth of antibiotics to hold off the bacteria. I then spent the ensuing week essentially bedridden again. It's quite likely that I've had a sinus infection for many months which caused my body to basically shut down as soon as antibiotics were introduced to it & it could sleep.

At the end of that week I was starting to get sick with something dad brought home from work & the infection hadn't cleared up very much. So I got a shot of antibiotics in addition to another weeks of pills. I then spent a week getting progressively more sick with a horrible cough, fatigue, and other symptoms. on the Monday of that week I finally saw my regular doctor. They tested me for the flu and covid and it was neither. It's just some kind of god awful cold the likes of which I've never experienced.

Maybe it was just getting sick so many ways all at once, or maybe they were just strong germs. I don't know. All I know is I could barely move or do anything. I couldn't sleep for all the coughing though, so I spend a week in a sort of half sleep like they use to torture people. Three days after I saw my doctor they called and desperately told me I needed xrays and pee tests. Because there were signs of a bacterial infection in my blood (The foot one that I guess they forgot about maybe?)

Of course I had been left alone to look after grandpa for a week so there was no one to take me. The doctor couldn't comprehend the idea that a person could have no family or friends to shuttle them around on a whim, but I don't. I've never interacted with a single local person for more than a few seconds in the entire nearly two decades I've lived here. My hobbies aren't racism or alcoholism so I don't have a lot in common with the locals.

In any case it just happened that dad hadn't left the state just yet so he circled back and took me to the hospital. I shudder to think what these procedures will cost me... My pee was regular, & probably delicious. As far as the x-rays go? I have no idea. It was fucking vital that I get checked, but no one has told me anything about them. I haven't suffocated in my own fluids so I guess after 4 days I must be okay.

For as much as medical care costs it's amazing how haphazard and shitty it always is...

Anyway, that's my story. I'm still technically sick. Hopefully my body can finish off the foot infection on its own now & I've been coughing less, so I'll probably be more or less fine by next month.

I appreciate you guys who stick around when I can't work as hard as I want to. Hopefully your loyalty will be rewarded someday.

The image is just a simple edit of goth Jo because so many people are amused by her in a vaguely goth outfit.

Damn, man, my health issues pale in comparison to yours. The bright spot was Wednesday when my handicap parking permit and my Medicare card came in (took the Feds long enough!). My girlfriend teased me out bout officially being old. Anyway, I'm glad you're doing a little better. If my brother and I are both incapacitated, I have to call Dial-A-Ride and pray I can convince then to show up on my hole-in-the-ground street, so I sympathize, there, too.
