Apple Can Suck It.
Added 2024-10-01 07:10:10 +0000 UTCPatreon is trying to get everyone to switch billing styles so that we can take subs via the Apple app store. Hopefully none of you are using apple as a subscription system for anything, but regardless I'm not switching. If you are using apple to sub to me please switch over to using the website. I don't want Apple to get any part of my payment when they do nothing at all for me. As far as I can tell no one interacts with my work via the patreon app anyway. So, just a bit of admin while I'm logged in. My guess is that none of you will need to do anything at all. If there's some reason why you absolutely must use Apple to support me contact me and I'll figure out a work around somehow.

I didn't realize that Patreon tried to get you to auto recommend other creators. (Mature or not.) THAT explains the rash of advertisements I've gotten from Patreon claiming that people I'm subscribed to recommend persons X, Y, and Z.

2024-10-01 18:58:26 +0000 UTCBecause of course they aren't making *enough* money selling their $30 cost-to-manufacure-phones for $1000+.

2024-10-01 18:19:37 +0000 UTCThe only Apple product I ever owned was a Mac a friend gave me because he was throwing it out. I never even powered it up, it sat in my basement for ten years and I took it to the electronics boneyard at the recycling center. Somebody else's problem. Maybe.

2024-10-01 17:02:41 +0000 UTCI don't use the patreon app at all (I like to actually see the images on a large screen, not on my phone or even on an ipad). But even if I did, it would be Android, not Crapple.

2024-10-01 16:56:53 +0000 UTCI'll be leaving Patreon soon anyway thanks to the "Verify you are human" spam. This just confirms my plummeting opinions. But nice to see QC's Liz used as avatar (though I'm not sure Jeph's terms allow that).

2024-10-01 15:41:40 +0000 UTCI don't use Apple, period. And I am proud of that fact.

2024-10-01 11:17:46 +0000 UTCI think I'm up to three creators with Jackie who are setting off the alarm on this subject. I'm enough of a Luddite to avoid most every app I can. I won't proselytize about anyone's OS (I work in IT and user interface comfort is key), but I will extol doing things in the browser (and I favor Firefox and LibreWolf).

2024-10-01 11:16:17 +0000 UTCAnother creator I follow pretty much summed it up the same way. Fuck Apple. I've not used their services to pay for my Patreon subscription, and with these changes I don't intend to.

2024-10-01 10:06:12 +0000 UTCI don't know where they would be getting that information from since Patreon has been quite clear about what is going to happen. I've seen nothing saying that mature content will be banned either. In fact the system automatically tried to get me to auto recommend other mature creators when I logged in. https://news.patreon.com/articles/understanding-apple-requirements-for-patreon

2024-10-01 09:41:39 +0000 UTCOther creators seem to have gathered that the change applies to the website too, making it into a monthly subscription deal you pay for every 30 days since the subscription date for new subscribers, and apparently there is a deadline after which the change is mandatory and either enforced or the account is terminated, plus with that anything 18+ will be banned. So they say.
