2021-12-09 00:18:44 +0000 UTCHmmm I do know that the DBZA VA for Nappa was cast as Nappa in the games, and the VA for Goku HATES DBZA because it makes Goku stupider than he is (which again, is funny but pokes fun at his naiveté). Could it had influenced it? Maybe a joke here and there, but to re-write a character? Probably more likely that Toriyama simply forgot how smart Goku was and filled in blanks randomly. Hell he forgot about the Saiyan tails..... and they played a major part in the early part of DBZ

2021-10-30 11:47:22 +0000 UTCyeah, many people claim they dumbed goku down to make him fit in more with his more moronic portrayal in dbz abridged. personally, i don't think that's the case though. i don't really think the english voiced dbza would have any real influcence on the japanese script writing, not to mention goku had had his idiot moments in db and dbz as well. the main issue is probably that the english dub of dbz, which was the gateway for many western fans into the series, changed several of goku's voicelines to be much more heroic and even a bit more competent than he really was, thus giving most western fans a false impression of goku. then again, this goku does seem a bit more stupid than what he was like in dbz in at least some regards. for example, dbs goku has trouble with simplest addition, even though we know for sure that a part of roshi's training back in the og db involved him getting at least an elementary school level of education, as, as roshi stated, a healthy spirit resides in a healthy body and a healthy mind.
