He wants to sound very personable and... person-y... but does not quite have the knack. Efheby spend long decades by themselves, speaking to no one. The art of conversation quite eludes them.
Bastion starts out feeling very superior but between the casual mention of Duane and the revelation of Foi-Hellick, he's definitely surrendered his attention by the end.

I love how this dialogue is going! It's like a little game that Bastion is trying desperately to not entirely lose to Ruck. On the other hand, that second panel is my favorite of this chapter so far. What a record scratch of a panel, a little sweeping foot kick to the rest of the fancy language.
