Queen Sonorie

Just for Patreon, the Queen's portrait at full scale. It's rather rare that a shrine would have an updated one, suggesting Litriya is important to Her Majesty. Most of the country has much older paintings done in celebration of her coronation. Timofey popped out of one once!

The blue deer is Niper, the mother goddess' fleet-footed familiar. She's supposed to be the one that hears your prayers and relays them back to Yerta. She also sees all your misdeeds and relates those to the Mother too! Eat your vegetables.

It's fun to look at the older portrait and kinda see how the years have changed her. She's wearing her royal headpiece in the old one, and we'll find her in that again in a few scenes when she gets decked out so she can yell at people properly.

I like the Queen :3

Duane just seems so much more REASONABLE than those people though. It is definitely wishful thinking, but I want to believe he has the flexibility to learn or to be convinced by experience (some can). I hold out hope for him. But only YOU know if his story is a Shakespearean tragedy or a story of redemption.

It's an odd thing that the oppressed and disadvantaged so often support the very people holding them down, often for dogmatic reasons and because they've been made to believe the alternative is so much more worse. I've seen this phenomenon a looooot in the US. In many ways, Duane is a way for me to explore and come to understand people in my family that I can't just block on Twitter, you know? I have to find a way to love them, and to figure out just why they behave in the rotten way they often do :) We basically know why Duane believes all these things. We've gotten to see behind his eyes. We've visited backstage. Wouldn't it be great if we could do this with every jerk in our lives?

Duane doesn't like her much. But then Duane has a head stuffed with religious and nationalist propaganda. Interesting how much I love him, when someone just like that in the "real" world would probably be blocked from my twitter feed. Ah, well. After reading the KissFist Baxter story, I wondered why that horrid experience of the injustices in Alderode (not to mention his experiences in school with his classmate) didn't stick more and make him judge his country a bit more harshly. Is it just that Alderode is the only safe haven for Ssaelit? Is he willing to put up with anything because of his intense quest for the divine? (More parallels to "real life.") If so, how much more sad that he ended up an abomination in the eyes of the very religion that drove almost every one of his actions. You go deep, Ashley. (And I go long; just meant to say "fantastic artwork!")

Interesting that in the newer portrait she looks ready to launch herself out of the frame at the viewer, and not maybe in a kindly way! Very effective!
