This is a good high-res page; lots of details in the second panel. Can you find the guy reading the glowing book? That'd be me if I were there.

Poor jumpy Lem. The chicks will dig that scar in a few years, kiddo, it's okay.

Of course you see and know all... like an Oracle. 😉 Thanks for taking the time to answer!! You are a benevolent god (though I imagine a fair few of your creations might disagree with that assessment).

I see all questions o_o Vliegeng don't easily differentiate enemy humans from friendly humans, and they've had no luck training them to fight that way. We're just too small. So they clip their fingers to make them less of a hazard. You could also say it's for "aesthetics" though. Untrimmed vliegeng hands look just like human hands, and both the Gefendur and Ssaelit find that distasteful. So they "fix" them. I suppose, at least, since they do it when the vliegeng are newborns, the critters never realise what they're missing.

This question is so late you'll likely not see it, but why don't they want their Vliegeng to have grabby hands? Mutilating them seems cruel--moreso even than clipping puppies' ears and tails for "aesthetic" reasons...

Thanx for the info abt vliegeng. They sound like fascinating beasts. Hilfy

Thank you!

Only Alderode flies vliegeng and since we've spent most of the comic in Cresce and Ulestry, they've been scarce. Male and female vliegeng are notoriously difficult to tell apart - you have to get your hands a little gooky if you want to know for sure. They both have horns, they're both roughly the same size, and the males only present their junk when it's time to get busy. Likewise the ladies only develop mammaries when they have pups. Assorted Vliegeng facts: -Vliegeng fingers are trimmed down when they’re babies so their hands look less human, and they can’t grab onto things (or people) well. -Vliegeng only eat a special type of giant grass called Frost Giants. These grow in plentiful supply along the northern Aldish coasts and the Gold mountains. They supplement this diet by hunting coastal whales and seals during the mating season, but aren’t very good at it since they can’t fly over deep water. -Vliegeng are social critters and grow attached to their handler, seeing them as part of their herd. It takes a lot of work to accustom them to a new one. -Vliegeng do not actually fly, but rather have specialized appendages that jut from their shoulderblades and attach to khert lines. They zip-line. Because of this they can’t take off quickly from a low-lying location, and either need to laboriously hook themselves onto higher and higher lines, or manually climb to a higher jumping off point. Thus their powerful arms and (when not trimmed) grabby hands. -Vliegeng aren’t usually found in the open in the wild. They live up in the Frost Giants that they eat, coiled around their trunks, gliding from stalk to stalk.

I feel like we (meaning me) don't know much about vliegeng. Is this a male and female pair? Is that why their horns are different? Or do they just have natural variations? Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere!

Even post-zombification Duane seems a lot less fucked up than Lem. Guess he's just the mentally tougher of the two.
